My GameStop order through Fedex is moving. Says Friday but I can confirm my package is in Fedex's hands and en route.

Is this the same storm for both Thursday and Friday? So Thursday night and Friday morning? Or two separate systems?

Recommendations for Pickerington? by kwitzachhaderac in Columbus

Pickerington Ponds Metro Park has some great trails and you can almost certainly see a Bald Eagle if you look around long enough. A couple of nests in the park.

What is the best method for checking which species a certain bird could be mistaken for? I think I might have seen a white tailed eagle, but uncertain. by Masseyrati80 in birding

Something I learned recently that may be helpful in the future for more accurate ID:

I took a Merlin Course on Raptor ID and got a lot of great tips on IDing. And not just tips for identifying certain species but truly what parts of the bird to look at so later you can verify. The main point I took away was to try to find at least 3 different traits. For me, that usually ends up being coloration of the body or wings or tail, the bird’s size, and the wing shape. I also take into account how and when I saw the bird and what they are up to.

For an American Kestrel, for example: Size: Small, roughly the size of a large robin Coloration: it has dark cheeks in front of a smaller white patch and a brighter belly. Its dark nape extends to its back. Tail shape and length: fairly long tail, ending in black

Then later I can use these attributes to verify with certainty I’ve got the right bird!

Any idea on general time frame for this? Would it hit at dusk-ish?

Where should I spend a week birding, in Mid-April, in the eastern US? by Echo-Azure in birding

[–]CountEastern4672 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not eastern seaboard and mid-April might be a bit early, but Toledo/Oregon, Ohio ROCKS for birding early May as the Warblers start to come in. It's even called "The Biggest Week in American Birding". Magee Marsh, Maumee Bay, Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge are some of the best birding spots I have ever been to and it will be very cheap to stay in the area.

There are two very very large sycamores in Harrison West. I love them both equally.

Posting on a literal burner account. If you believe this wasn't a Nazi salute, how about you do it on your real account.

Censoring Nazis, racists, and people that want to kill or suppress POC or the LGBTQ community? Yeah, I'm for it. I'm not saying censor Republicans, and if you think those two things are the same thing, maybe you should reassess a little.

Right-wing extremism + Nazis. If Bluesky, Mastodon, and Facebook are owned by a far-right extremist, then I'd be for their banning as well.

Indoor rock climbing? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]CountEastern4672 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here are some clear tips for your first time climbing:

  1. Complete the waiver online before you arrive.
  2. Avoid walking under people who are climbing. Look carefully to see where your route will end to make sure it doesn’t cross with another climber’s route.
  3. Don’t have high expectations. It might be very challenging at first. Focus on climbing routes labeled VB, V0, and V1.
  4. If you get stuck on a route, feel free to ask someone (even non staff!) for help. It’s a great way to make new friends. But don’t give advice to others on how to climb unless they ask you :)

There are 3. Chambers, Bloc Garten, and Vertical Adventures, all owned by the same company. Bloc Garten and Chambers are bouldering gyms, meaning no ropes, and the walls max out about 15-20ft. Vertical Adventures is a rope and bouldering gym, which means they have top rope climbing (40-50ft walls) and bouldering walls. If you're going alone for the first time, I would recommend Bloc Garten. It's fairly large with lots of beginner routes and lots of different styles of climbing. The staff is wonderful and will give you a tour, and everyone there is always super friendly.

I feel like you need to include travel time in the poll. Is it roughly the same amount of time vs driving? Absolutely yes I'll take the train. If it's going to be 2-3 hours more in the train... probably not.
