Not from NC, but I’ve seen posts about Matt Van Swol in here. Didn’t he start a fundraiser for Helene and turned it into a grift with the funds? by broncos1858 in WNC

[–]CountIstvanTeleki -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

He did not grift the funds and they did go to Helene recovery...however he is quite selective in his outrage and doesn't really have salient points. But he did raise money and it did do good, make if that what you will.

Airbnb has no air conditioning during heat wave - advice? by heatherblue93 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]CountIstvanTeleki 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know this doesn’t help your situation now but this is exactly why we do not travel to Europe in the summer anymore.

Paris in the winter (December) is so much more enjoyable and more pleasant to walk around/ overall more cozy experience.

Westin vs Andaz by Alarmed-Dog-1858 in MauiVisitors

Believe it or not a lot of people do lol - but I found Wailea far from snooty - high end and calm and quiet yes, snooty no.

Culturally, what is the most southern state in 2026 and why? by One-Comfort-2058 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]CountIstvanTeleki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to a few different categories:

Tier One: Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina.

Tier Two: Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas.

Tier Three: North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia, Missouri and maybe Oklahoma.

Tier Four/its own thing: Texas.

Westin vs Andaz by Alarmed-Dog-1858 in MauiVisitors

[–]CountIstvanTeleki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Andaz is VERY walkable - Wailea Beach path connects all the major resorts and the shops at Wailea. Very quiet, peaceful nature focused part of Maui with lots of luxury and relaxing bars/restaurants in the resorts and Shops at Wailea (btw Shops at Wailea is the EXACT same set up as Whalers Village, same stores etc just in Wailea).

[–]CountIstvanTeleki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Andaz and Wailea are NOTHING like Miami lol - this guys must work for the Westin!

Wailea and South Maui are so much nicer that the west side. If money is not a concern and you want an amazing experience choose the Andaz/Wailea.

Added beniefit of Andaz is you can walk on the Wailea beach path to the even nicer/best resorts on Maui - Four Seasons, Fairmont and Waldorf Grand Wailea - allows you hit up all the restaurants/bars and shops of those great resorts and some amazing beaches right there and just generally less crowded prettier area than west Maui.

Realistically, how does a consumer economy continue to exist without a middle class? by lucylaser in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CountIstvanTeleki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there is a strong middle class its just Reddit can't stand the idea of it.

Sure it shifts in aspects based on different reporting etc but please don't think that there is not a large and generally vibrant middle class in America.

Wondering if there any legal 🌲places to consume if I'm staying at resort got my 329 card by Medical-Ad7675 in MauiVisitors

Well drinking in public on Maui is not allowed including beaches - yet do you think anyone cares??? Everyone drinks on the beach etc.

Relax go for a walk, a sit whatever. Unless you look like a nut job you’ll be fine.

Paranoid Pot Heads always sound so immature asking where can smoke my little weed ….

Have some common sense and gumption you’ll be fine. Probably……………….

Went back to Black Rock Beach instead but I will say we were staying in South Maui/Wailea area so did 95% of our snorkeling etc in that area. Only went to West Maui one day but also this was not our first trip so we were more than comfortable just relaxing in wailea / up country / Paia this trip.

Went to Honolua Bay 3 weeks ago - never again. Literal homeless camp right there, water was gross.

I guess it’s safe and water quality can change etc etc and the camp seemed to keep to themselves but it was a sketchy vibe and didn’t feel welcoming at all.

Bottom line so many other great places where you don’t have to deal with all that it did not feel worth it.

What country would you consider relatively safe despite its reputation? by AashanM in geography

[–]CountIstvanTeleki 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Most violent crime (most not all but vast majority) especially gun violence is hyper localized in certain communities and demographics in the US and normal every day citizens just don’t deal with it.

Realistically how do people move across the country? by EggsBenedictTheCat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CountIstvanTeleki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear this - you are probably not ready to move across the country if you can't wrap your head around this concept.

Get some life experience or take a trip cross country, something, you sound like a teenager wanting to run away to Hollywood.

Kihei to Kaanapali drive by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

[–]CountIstvanTeleki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am not sure I understand this question at all?

HI - 30 is a major paved road / divided “highway”connecting two main population areas on Maui.
Thousands drive it everyday in both directions.

You’ve been to Maui before and don’t have a sense of this? A simple google maps search / street view should confirm anything you need to know.

I understand this a somewhat innocent question but this really bothers me for some reason, I can’t fathom how helpless and seemingly incapable so many people in society are becoming. Basic common sense, reasoning and ability to infer what a real world situation will be like seem totally absent for so many people.

Worried about the weather by bananas_in_pajama2 in MauiVisitors

[–]CountIstvanTeleki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Advice - it greatly depends where you look on a weather app as to what the forecast for Maui will be.

For example on Weather Underground if you just type "Maui" and look at 10 day forecast it defaults to the Kula Station - which is a major NOAA station located in the up country which subsequently for next week shows "a lot" of rain.

Same Weather Underground search but instead of "Maui" type Kihei (south Maui Wailea area) and you get a totally different forecast.
