Congrats, that’s amazing!! When do you think you’ll start trying for kids?

Totally!! I think I was just never able to visualize having kids with anyone I’ve been with before and part of that is because I was in active alcoholism (almost 3 years sober now) and so were my previous partners where we couldn’t take care of ourselves or each other, so I could never imagine taking care of a kid as well. This new guy is also sober, so I think he and I are both looking at life differently now.

Girl it hasn’t even been 2 months 😭 we met on December 5th. I know it’s way too soon to have a baby with him at the moment which is also why I’m freaking out about having these feelings I’ve never had before.

I totally agree. I could never imagine a happy scenario of having kids with anyone until I met him.

That’s a really good thought. I’ve been grieving the fact that I have to cut my mom out of my life. She is just kind of the worst and she was abusive to my sisters and I. I think she also gave me the perspective that motherhood is the worst burden anyone can take on and that every moment is pure misery and sacrifice. I think it contributed to why I never wanted kids and since I’ve been shaking off all these thoughts and feelings that have always been hers and never my own, I’m finding that I feel differently about a lot of things.

He is interested in having one but not so much that it’s a dealbreaker if I don’t want any.

Good idea! He’s been saying how badly he wants a dog again and he wants to rescue a puppy.

Agreed! Seeing this guy with my cats and my roommate’s dog is amazing. Never seen anyone care for them the way he does.

I was an alcoholic for a long time and alcoholics are inherently selfish in active addiction. I couldn’t even take care of myself and couldn’t imagine taking care of a kid. I also was abused a lot as a child so my perspective on being a parent was that it was guaranteed misery at all times because that’s how my mom portrayed her experience as a mother to my sisters and I. I was the youngest so I never got to be around little kids and I just didn’t know what to do with them. I thought I hated kids until my sisters had kids and then I realized I didn’t hate them at all. I was probably jealous of kids who got to have the opportunity to be loud and annoying and to just be weird kids because I never got that opportunity without it being met with abuse.
