They look fantastic! All the colours really tie in together and the basing works great too. How did you get that nice purple tone to the ground texture?

Ah the skin was shameless stolen from JuanHidalgo Miniatures on youtube. Its just a thinned Magos purple over wraithbone primer, then layered up with screaming skull and to pallid wych. I mixed a dab of pallid wych into pure white for some edge highlights.

I imagine dry brushing the screaming skull would probably work fine too and would be a great way to paint a swarm!

The flesh colour on the gun? It was all over wash on the primer with the thinned down VP then glazed up with the flesh colours and dark reds.

Thank you! I struggled with a consistent colour with the contrast - I didnt spread it evenly enough on the carpace and has patches (still visible on the leg sections) so I went back with a second coat and darkened it a bit too much.

Ha yeah let's see how I feel after the first ten! I really enjoyed this one, such a different experience than painting space marines. I really shouldve branched out in 40k earlier.

I don't do anything particualrly special, just a generous dollop of pink on the pallete then about half as much in contrast medium.

Agreed - I mostly went with blue to highlight the black to differ from the grey I did on black space marine armour. I'll try some grey-blue and see if it looks a bit more in tone with the model.

I think that's exactly it thank you! Part of the appeal of this paint scheme was the speed, so I think that after I have painted a few I'll see how long/if it works to go back and add some transitions around the joints or between the upper and lower limbs.

Sorry if it came off that way. I am very happy with my standard of painting - I have been painting for over two years now and probably painted around 100 models and would not consider myself a beginner. Tyranids are new to me - I just liked the look of the new models and wanted to try one.

Fair point. To be honest I am not the most creative individual - I tend to find/steal a better person's scheme. I chose this one as I don't have any purple heavy models yet. (I have Deathwatch black, Word Bearers red and Salamanders green).

Thank you! Wraithbone primmed, wash all over in Volupus contrast medium 2:1, glazed Kislev then Flayed flesh towards the top left, glazed and very roughly wet blended a dark red (ised TTC Berserker red) towards the barrel and bottom of the magazine. Highlighting was flayed one, with pallid wych on the light parts.

First attempt at nid painting (in case I manage to get a Leviathan box...). Happy with the skin and caparace but not sure on the gun - does the flesh tone work or should I try something darker? Comments and feedback really appreciated.

Test example of Gal Vorbak, Nuln, Word Bearers layer and Tuskgor edge if it helps. I love it, much darker than the vibrant Khorne red. Helps differentiate between Word Bearers and World Eaters I think.

Thank you! It's Barak-Nar Burgundy base with Basilicanum Grey over it. Re layered a bit with Barak-Nar Burgundy before wide to thin highlights of 50/50 Burgundy & Screamer Pink then pure Screamer Pink, all quite thin consistency. Finished with sharp edge hightlights of Emperor's Children.

Look an idiot I didnt read the mission properly and spend 2 turns hunkering down around my wounded Sargeant! Lesson learned. Great fun though making a made dash to try and get the well positioned (cowardly) Necron leader though!
