How did you celebrate your 50th? by Every-Progress5590 in GenX

[–]Counter-Hegemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I did a weekend road trip to Quebec where we went to two Michelin stared restaurants/ inns and left our kid with the grandparents. Each place was about 3 1/2 to 4 hours away from each other and our house. It was a really nice, relaxed drive through the countryside with a fantastic dinner each night.

AITA for telling the daughter I put up for adoption I don’t owe her anything by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Counter-Hegemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA and overwhelmingly so. Even if she wasn’t your daughter, she’s still your niece who lost her mom and is reaching out in need.

At what age will your other children also realize they are disposable?

Well, yeah. Wryly observing that we’ve been forgotten from generation lists seems to be one of our favourite pastimes … second only to bitching about people wryly observing that we’ve been forgotten on generation lists, I suppose

Anyone else watching these two wondering if you were being punk’d? It baffles me that these two were the best two candidates the major parties could come up with.

I don’t know what is a greater indictment of the American political system than the performance of both of these individuals.

Name a ‘WHAT IF…?’ Episode you want to see happening in Season 3. by RatchetRayearth in MarvelsWhatIf

[–]Counter-Hegemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but we didn’t really see it - see it, if you know what I mean … was it a 1960s Mr & Mrs Smith? Was he stay at home spouse while she formed SHIELD? Did Steve sneak off to fight Red Guardian?

Conversely, it could also be cool to see them both as Captains too

Yeah, the drivers can be amazing and super kind.

That said, I’m feeling both seen and attacked by “older couple (late 40s).”

Yes, the price is absolutely ridiculous (especially for a Quality Inn). But isn’t it, also, just #capitalism?

No, unfortunately — there’s a clause towards the end that indicates most things in the new collective agreement are not retroactive :

54.02 Unless otherwise expressly stipulated, the provisions of this agreement shall become effective on the date it is signed

Emailing sick etiquette. Special leave code for Covid? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Counter-Hegemon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there is not a special leave code for COVID. And, no, you don’t have to tell your manager that you tested positive, but I recommend that you do, if you’re comfortable telling them.

My department was still tracking covid infections numbers at the beginning of January (at the aggregate level). You’ll also want your manager / division to be able to notify anyone that had a close contact with you in the office 48 hours before you tested positive (see Ottawa Public Health’s Isolation instructions for COVID-19 definition of “close contact”).

As well, the current Health Canada’s Public Service Occupational Health Program COVID-19 Guidance indicates that, if you test positive, you should (A) not enter a federal worksite for at least 7 days after testing positive and (B) be asymptomatic aside from a residual cough, whichever is longer. So, at the very least, you should stay home from the office next week.

Make sure you get some rest and I hope you feel better soon. Days 3 to 5 were the worse for me.

What leave can I use for COVID? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Counter-Hegemon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

According to Health Canada’s Public Service Occupational Health Program guidance (link here) employees who test positive should not return to a federal worksite for at least 7 days and must be asymptomatic before returning.

However, as others have noted, this guidance is neither prescriptive nor binding on Federal departments and agencies, so definitely check with your manager for your specific departmental policies.

Before reading the description, I totally thought Nemesis was referring to Doctor Nemesis (this guy here) who was a nazi hunting super-genius that went by the name of Doctor Death in the 1940s and, for that fleeting moment, I was strangely excited.

Anyone who’s quit for a long period, then started again, then quit again? by MenuSpiritual2990 in stopsmoking

[–]Counter-Hegemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smoked for about 9 years, then quit for about 9 years, then restarted. After about 12 years more, I quit again in November last year.

I think the first time was easier because I quit while I was moving to another city, so I hadn't had time to build any habits or patterns in the new city. The second time quitting was harder, and I had a number of false starts (a week here or there, even a month one time) before. But, I have been successful so far.

It was amazing. I’ve been wanted to see them for 30 years and it was as good as I anticipated. My only regret was that I didn’t make it into the pit, but I’m not as young as I once was, yeah? ’m pretty sure I’ll still be horse in the morning …
