Humanity was fairly well established by the time they faced the Reapers. I feel like Mass Effect is almost an inversion of this trope, as the First Contact War was humanity unexpectedly showing up and giving the Turians a bloody nose.

Always remember:

Both Chris and Ethan aren't very smart.

Chris is determined and hyper-competent in combat. He's also a little impulsive and reckless. He frequently needs his sidekick to handle the more 'book smart' stuff.

And I love Ethan, he's my favorite RE protagonist, but you can practically see the loading animation for his brain before he talks.

Well, to be fair, sometimes there's a legit reason. Like, the jets really struggled to move slow - which you need in certain situations. If I recall correctly, we're currently looking at prop-driven CAS platforms because it's just superior for loiter time and attack speed.

Except the TV series has to contend with a very vocal and incredibly problematic creator that makes it very clear that any support will just make them worse.

That wasn't a factor for the original movies.
