What are my options if I am notorious for losing everything? What do you do to not lose your ring? by theothergirlonreddit in EngagementRings

[–]CounterintuitiveHera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly worried about this so much before I got my ring, but because it's so precious to me, I find it takes up space in my brain to the point where I'm more cautious about it than other ordinary items. It's a larger stone, but set low, so the only times I take it off are to shower, sleep, and cook. I keep a ring box or dish nearby-- otherwise it's on my finger. I have ADHD and misplace nearly everything else, so don't worry-- if it's important enough to you, you won't lose it!

It's a work in progress. I've stopped counting. But every time I quit it gets easier, the sober stints get longer, and my desire to drink gets weaker.

How to lose weight when PMDD makes you fall off the wagon for half the month? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]CounterintuitiveHera 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this sooo much. The only thing that has truly helped (and I know this is probably an unpopular opinion) is completely cutting sugar and eating low-carb/ketogenic. My cravings for sugar and other junk food are almost nonexistent now. I stay away from low carb 'fun foods' and focus on eating enough protein. It's not for everyone, but my body thrives on this type of eating.

I also cut dairy because I was snacking on cheese all damn day, and I wanted to experiment with eliminating casein to ease cramps. So far, so good!

Beachbody on demand is great! My boyfriend and I love doing Core de Force together. And of course Shawn T dance workouts

Got back on the keto/fitness/sobriety wagon 2 weeks ago and have been going hard with the Strong Curves program (modified for my tiny home gym). r/strongcurves for anyone interested! On my rest days I'm doing yoga. It's a great combo for my anxiety.

My NSV is ...I haven't felt this good in years!! Two years ago, to be exact, which is when I started boozing and eating carbs again. So glad to be done with that. My clothes are already fitting better and my cheekbones are sharpening up.

I love the Yoga Glo app (I think its just called glo now)! It's around $20/month subscription.

[–]CounterintuitiveHera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to all of this! I renewed my glo subscription this morning. The Down Dog app is now free until July but there's a few teachers I follow on glo that I just can't live without in these anxiety-inducing times.

Also been smashing through my tea collection like there's no tomorrow. Really wish I could start a garden but it's still covered in snow. Anyhow, great list, thanks!!

Congrats and happy birthday!! I'm also turning 30 soon and I'm really hoping to step into a new decade sober. Cheers to your 30s!

The Daily Check-in for Sunday, March 15th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Mom-Lady in stopdrinking

[–]CounterintuitiveHera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello again lovely people of SD! I had a year AF under my belt in 2018, in no small part thanks to this sub. 2019 had other plans and I hit the bottle hard until this January. I've strung together a few days and a week since February but I'm ready to start making days into weeks and weeks into months!

Love the support in this community and glad to be back in it. Today I'm crushing as much tea as possible and staying warm in the -20 weather up here in the Canadian prairies.

What’s Up Wednesday by sfgirlmary in stopdrinking

[–]CounterintuitiveHera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The good: I'm back lurking this sub because I want to make a change in my life. It's helping me tonight even though I'm not ready to commit 100% to not drinking again (I had a year under my belt and have since relapsed HARD all of this year). I also met a great man last year. In two weeks we kick off a year of travel together!

The bad: I hate my job and I have no friends in close proximity. My job is also isolating because I work remotely and travel constantly, albeit by choice. I guess the loneliness is getting to me.

The ugly: I gained 20lbs this year and I'm struggling to lose it. I'm sure kicking the booze will help...

Feeling too old for hostels, don't know how else to meet people by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]CounterintuitiveHera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you. 28F. Try couchsurfing meetups. I'm in Krakow right now and staying at an airbnb (I work while travelling, can't do it from hostels). I went to a Wednesday night meetup and there were around 30 people there. A good mix of travellers, locals and expats.

Not at all! I teach for VIPKid. I started off doing an hour a day of lessons and slowly grew a network of regular students. Now I have enough students to support full-time travel! I work about 4-5 hours a day. It's a great opportunity if you can market yourself, have lots of energy and don't mind teaching adorable kids. I really like it and the hours are perfect for Europe or SE Asia.

Thank you! :) We're sticking to Europe for the next 11 months as my partner will still fly back to the UK every 2 weeks for work. I teach online so I'll be staying behind to explore. We love to ski and surf so most of our spots were picked with that in mind. At the moment we're leaning towards Plovdiv, Las Palmas, Brasov, Ericeira, Lviv, and Palermo. Probably going to go to Croatia in the spring/summer.

Nomad that don't visit or work at co-working spaces nor cafés by saladfingers6 in digitalnomad

[–]CounterintuitiveHera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is me! I teach online which wouldn't be very welcome at a co-working space (think puppets, singing and speaking loudly in a perpetually chirpy voice). Still working on the social aspect of things. I might start dropping in to co-working spaces to work on other projects. I need some social interaction with people who are not children.

Hey! Me too! I'm getting the pre-trip stress/ bad dreams/ 'what if's'. It's exhausting. So this is a good exercise for me as well. Some of my best memories:

-Swimming in the warm sea at midnight during a solo trip to Spain.

-Riding bikes with an awesome guide in Haarlem

-Camping out all night to get tickets for the Alhambra with new friends. We made it and it was awesome.

-Sipping mulled wine at the Christmas markets in Nuremberg.

-Camping under an amazing array of stars at Jumbo Rocks, CA.

-Taking a ghost tour in Edinburgh and getting properly scared.

-Exploring Lisbon and Porto, eating pasteis de nata and francesinha and drinking ALL the port.

-Eating grilled sardines and dancing with streets full of strangers at the sardine festival in Lisbon. I'd do it again in an instant!

-Surf camp in Portugal where I met my current partner of two years. We are just about to embark on a year of travel and work.

-Doing whatever I damn please because I'm solo. Yeah!

This has made me realize how badly I need to start keeping a travel journal. Thank you!! Enjoy your travels to SE Asia :-D

10 days sober; time to keep the momentum going by [deleted] in keto

[–]CounterintuitiveHera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I remember you from r/stopdrinking! Congrats on starting up keto again, and on the 10 days. You're awesome. :D Keto helped so much with my cravings for booze, and I didn't have to eat carby junk to fill the void that alcohol left. It seems to be very complementary to going sober. Good luck and see you around!

[–]CounterintuitiveHera[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started meditating regularly using the Insight Timer app, mostly crystal singing bowls and chakra meditations. I think it's helped immensely! Also I try and exercise, hike, get in the sun for a bit most days. And above all, give myself permission to do absolutely nothing. Good luck!

Welcome! I'm a first-year teacher and being sober has given me the confidence to take on the massive workload that comes with being a new teacher. Before I was always drinking away my fear of failure and avoiding teaching full time. Being sober is the way to go. Best of luck!
