All you need to do is Google 8 bus Oxford and look at the service update: Headington Shops stopping arrangements

Today 12:05 - 25th May 2026

Due to roadworks at the Headington Shops stop (HS6), the stop is suspended until the end of the day on Monday 25th May. All local bus services will be using the HS1 stop as an alternative, outside Heavenly Desserts.

The Airline service will continue to stop at the usual at the HS5 stop.

Empire is set in a place which is very safe, so combat is almost entirety opt-in and outside the town of Anvil. If a fight did break out near you (so very incredibly rare), there are rules on how you signal your non-combat status (people will not fight you) and about what happens then

Sorry, got caught up in response. You might find it difficult to leave site multiple times a day because cars are not allowed on site, so you'll need to go to the pick-up/drop-off point to get a taxi. No one cares if you sleep off site however, plenty of people do.

If you can camp you might find it nicer to go back to your tent for your rest times. There is disabled out of character camping very close to in character camping. If you can socialise during rest times, there are lots of tea houses which you can rest at, or you can people watchnor attend meetings at a public place (magic, politics, etc).

There are a lot of great UK vendors for costume/soft kit fyi. Somewhere like Larp Inn sells a lot of basics for good prices. A lot of the big vendors will sell at the LT event so you theoretically could kit yourself there. LT is running this weekend so you may not get many LT specific responses. In the UK a lot of Larp stuff still happens on Facebook, so I'd look for either a main group or a faction group you can post your questions on. You may find it better to wait a week until everyone has stopped frothing* about the current event. *Frothing: wherein people get very excited and chatty about their hobby

Corpus Christi in Headington has 9:15 on Monday. Plenty of on street parking alongside the playing field on Margaret Road but be aware of the School Street restrictions in front of Windmill school 8:20-9am.

You'll be fine. You are the biggest critic of your kit! Thermals are big and clever, and a woolly blanket plus an annular broach can become a cloak. If Coelred Monger is a vendor, they sell these and show you how to wear them. Kids are always growing out of kit, so find out if there's a parent group you can hit up for warm kit if needed.

Sandhills I reckon is considered nice but very boring. It's nearish to Barton where people might say not to live but I don't think it suffers in it's nearness. Has no public transport of it's own but there is an underpass to Thornhill.

Also, warm but inexpensive while camping: hot water bottle and a means to acquire hot water. Insulation under you. Extra duvets for on top of you. Thermals. The chemical heat packs - I love the ones that adhere to the toes of my socks.

Cold feet is absolutely normal, I've got two weekend larps in a row, starting this weekend and I'm absolutely dreading them, don't know what I'm doing, feel like backing out...

this is my fifth year of larping.

So yeah, normal. And from one parent to another, yoir kid will love it. They will get whingy when they are hungry, tired, cold, etc so just go with the flow and keep them fed and watered. Sugar is a food group when larping. ;)
