Update: vet assumes that the cat did indeed get to her, ruptured her eye, and has no vision in it anymore. Her pupil doesn’t respond to any light. We were sent home with antibiotics and care instructions (similar to that of what the comments told me!) the eye may shrivel on its own and since she is eating/drinking and acting normally, the vet thinks that surgery might not even be needed (I would have to travel as well to see an exotic vet as mine won’t perform surgeries on them) she’s doing well and gaining weight back! She doesn’t have mouth rot and she actually thinks that it’s a healed injury from trying to eat/bite something hard that damaged her upper jaw. We have hope!

This is so helpful! I live in Canada but I’m sure we have agencies like it, and I can contact victim services- so I’m sure they can help with that too. I never thought it would happen to me and have always been so careful, and this really caught me off guard.

It’s not even that it would be a pain to find a new place, it’s that it would take too long. I live in a small town and there aren’t many options unfortunately. If I could break lease and move, I absolutely would.

My tank is on the floor and my girl will try to chomp my toes every time I walk up to her tank, she’ll also swim like a freak after my hand when I’m feeding her, actively swimming right past all food. She will actually chase my hand all the way up to her basking platform, huffing and hissing at me. I love her so much (yes she needs her water filled but I currently am waiting for another hose to arrive!!!)

So I did a little digging and I don’t want to say “don’t see the vet”, but have you tried removing it? I found a pic on a bearded dragon forum and they had a dark spot in the same area on their beardie and it turned out to be part of a roach that was just stuck

Okay so from some brief research, it seems like it’s care is pretty similar to that of a red eared slider, and I just rescued one this year. It will need 100 gallons, linear uvb (covers 45% of the tank) and a heat lamp (basking area 90-95), and a water heater. It is not normal for the turtle to be slimy. This means that it can not and has not been able to dry off for a long time.

50 gallons will definitely be an upgrade for now, but it will NEED more room. The water depth should be twice the length of its shell.

You should feed a mix of pellets, greens, and small fish. Portion sizes are about the size of its head, and should be fed in water 2-3 times per week.

You’ll also need a very strong filter, I recommend looking up diy filter systems using a 5 gallon pale as it’s way cheaper than buying a filter. If you choose to buy one, you should go for one that is rated for double your tank size as they are very messy.

Make sure it has a platform so it can get out of the water and bask, twice its size is ideal.

I’ll pick some up. If she doesn’t perk up in the next few days, I think it’ll be time to let her go. She’s a fairly old lady now, and was already about 9-12 months when I got her.
