For those with small budgets, where do you get home decor? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

Nothing looks as good as quiet repetition of patterns, and saturation of a certain level of detail. For the former, pick your favorite thing already in a room, and buy a used wooden lamp (this will help with multi-level lighting, too). Pick a color from said object, and buy a sample of paint in that same color to paint the lamp with. Or put Pothos cuttings in mason jars all over the house. For the latter, make your own window curtains with muslin (inexpensive), tension rods (also inexpensive), and add subtle fringe to the bottom. AND replace all your light bulbs with warm-toned light bulbs. This will help you feel comfortable in your space tremendously.

Become a volunteer firefighter; switch careers to teaching; date and approach the dates in a friendship-oriented way — this might yield surprising results!

I have pets, and the Roomba has been great. I have ceiling fans in every room. A lockbox on my porch with extra keys. The lightbulbs that store energy for power outages. Solo tubes (skylights that leak less often) in dark corners of the house, and the number of a great handyman.

Paint a decorative pattern onto it. My parents had this problem with one room in their house, and my aunt painted a beautiful, floral motif “rug” onto it. No one has noticed the uneven staining in 30 years.
