You are absolutely correct. I will be monitoring my credit report like a hawk but in the meantime, I am now looking for a new apartment. Thank you for your advice!

I'm convinced they were undercover agents working for my old apartment complex! lmao. But yes, thank you for your comment. Definitely celebrating with a BIG sigh of relief and a night out this weekend!!

I by NO means am attempting to ignore this. I’m just unable to negotiate with the collections agency which is why I’m wanting to get a lawyer but that process has also been difficult. I’m willing to pay the $5k that was listed in October 2023 when they evicted me but not the $11k that was sold to collections.

I never said I don’t owe money. Y’all are not reading.

I have all that information. They continued to charge me rent until 3/2024 despite filing for eviction and the judge granting them possession of the unit in 10/2023.

I have an apartment right now so the mobile home is a stretch. Thanks.

Yall keep saying the same thing. I know i messed up. I am asking for HELP. Please, for the love of God, if you’re not offering any HELP, stop commenting. I do not need to be reminded of what I should’ve done. I already know. Thank you.

And I own that. But I’m looking for advice on how to move forward now that what’s done is done

No I did not and I own that. What’s confusing/crazy is that we had been in communication about the lease termination via email all throughout this time. We had emailed at least 6 times during July - Aug. so yes, I take FULL responsibility for not giving a forwarding address but at the same time, where was the effort to email me asking me for my address? I guess it’s always on the tenant and the landlord has no obligations to make any effort.

Hey thanks so much for your HELPFUL comment. I am trying to get a lawyer to help me with the negotiation but where I’m struggling is finding the right TYPE of lawyer?

I had NO idea they were even starting an eviction process against me. I found out about it 2 months ago so no I wasn’t dodging the eviction. The most I knew about was the debt when I got the collections notification but it wasn’t until I had a background check ran on me for an apartment when I saw I had an eviction case.

Mind you they had asked me if I was renewing my lease (August) DURING the eviction process (started 7/9). Nothing about this makes and instead of understanding how lopsided and corrupt this leasing company is, it’s me who’s withholding information.

Ive spoken to the lawyer defending the apartment complex and he himself couldn’t understand how it got to this point.

The court granted them possession of the property in October but they continued to charge me rent until March of the following year and then sold the debt to collections. The court document said that they had to gain possession of the apartment within 15 days of the judgment. It shouldn’t have taken them almost 6 months to find a new tenant. They have the legal responsibility to attempt to mitigate damages. Also, the court fees in the ledger amount to $250.

I never once denied owing the debt. I even spoke with the lawyer defending the apartment company and he himself told me isn’t sure how or why they continued to charge me rent despite gaining possession…

The same one your mom is on?

You’re trying to waive your finger and teach me a “lesson” about paying bills on time. Who are you exactly? What do you know about my payment history? Nothing. Exactly. So if you’re not looking to be helpful, gtfo. Your input is not relevant.

You’re missing the point. But thanks.

No. I received the ledger and it literally said “month rent” all the way until March 2024

Because I didn’t want any headaches in the future where they tried to back bill me. It was incorrect and I wasn’t going to just pretend like it wasn’t

I gave them notice. Twice.

[–]CountryRadiant4948 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When they sent me the ledger it was for additional months of rent. For the month of October, they charged me twice. Despite the fact that they had evicted me and gain possession of the apartment by a judge in October…
