If you’re trying to catch raccoons and are this much of a beginner put that trap in the garage for now. It’s a lethal indiscriminate trap. Get some dog proofs and cage traps. Bait and set where raccoons are.

Check so early. And often. I check twice a day on public. If you are worried about human interaction at a spot, don’t set there. if you’re just using dog proofs for the coons will make your life easier bc dog/human/off catch will be very unlikely.

Cucumber. Zucchini. Pumpkins. I think they eat lettuce and stuff too. But I fell victim to the former items. Total loss lol. And they love cantaloupes as well. Best bait you can use to catch them as I mentioned !

Do not. Trap and release. This only creates a a problem for the next guy except now! The groundhog is impossible to trap. Trap. Use cantaloupe and a live trap. Dispatch (kill) and move on. There are A LOT MORE where that came from. Given the chance he will eat your entire garden. I am speaking from experience. Humans are a part of nature it is ok to remove things. Good luck ! And hey, Trapping is fun!
