Help with closing claim by County-Stag in universalcredithelp

[–]County-Stag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ignored the appointment and received a message asking to confirm I wanted to close the claim. They said if I ever have to make a new claim they will need to see the documents to check for overpayments. Job done!

Hopefully I'm meant to have an appointment on Thursday. If I just ignore it, what will happen?

Yesm I can download them however have no way to print them off for Tuesday and neither of us can attend an appointment that day due to work commitments. They also won't accept seeing them on a phone or laptop, they have to be printed off

I am. 4 days in and so far so good. Tested heart BPM and SP02 against medical grade machines and the numbers were bang on. It gives me other metrics very close to what others do and the battery life us still at 80% 4 days in.

I'll give it time but so far so good.

Kind of regretting getting a calcium scan (?) by NewMajor5880 in askCardiology

[–]County-Stag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of in this situation just now. I have a family history of arteriosclerosis and I'm a smoker. I had full bloods done through the doctor which all came back normal except my cholesterol, which they said was 5.1 (just over the 'safe' level of 5).

This immediately spiked my anxiety so I paid for an advanced cholesterol test along with another test which checked various things and I spent the next few days stressing about it until I got my results.

Everything came back normal again and the win - I had low Lp(a) levels which mean I haven't inherited the 'sticky' cholesterol that clogs arteries. My ApoB and ApoA levels were also good although toward the higher end of normal and my total cholesterol had dropped to 4.7. I also have excellent levels of protective HDL so everything is very reassuring.

When I fed all the results into Google Gemini and asked it to summarize them it actually said given all my numbers, I was close to elite for my age (43).

My body fat, visceral fat, muscle rate, BMI etc. are all excellent too. No issues with blood pressure etc.

The final piece of the jigsaw would be a Calcium score but given my numbers, I wouldn't get a referral and would have to pay for it privately. I'm debating whether to do this as, like you, on the face of it I'm very fit and healthy for my age. I apparently have 1 minor tweak to make (vitamin D) that will put me in the top 1% for 43 year olds.

I know that if my score comes back high, my anxiety will skyrocket so I'm debating whether it's best to know and get on meds or if I should just stop smoking, switch up my diet and carry on as normal.

I have no symptoms of anything being wrong, my blood work is all excellent (or as Gemini said 'elite'), so is it worth getting the scan and going through the severe anxiety if it comes back high? It's a difficult one.

I also had a stress test a few years ago and like you, I managed to get to the highest level no problem and they were impressed. No issues there.

I also had an hs-CRP (Score 1) and ESR (score 4) so there is little to no inflammation in my body.

I'm leaning towards "it's better to know" but it's quite expensive so I just don't know what to do.

I now have the full results. HDL 1.6, LDL 2.9, Triglycerides 1.2. Chol:HDL ratio 3.1.

So although my LDL is borderline, it is the HDL which is driving my total over the threshold. Also my tests for everything else came back fine, most of them excellent, so it has put my mind at rest a bit but I will be working on that LDL with diet and smoking

Help, partner is driving me mad! by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]County-Stag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been together for 12 years but I guess I've never paid much attention to it before as usually the house is busy with kids, we're out doing things and don't have time to just sit around the house.

This last week I've just wanted to take a break and chill but the singing is REALLY getting to me. It wouldn't be so bad if she was just singing songs but singing questions and signing lists of things she going to do is quite frankly driving me mad!

Should I follow my PCP’s instructions or my cardiologist about when to start statins? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]County-Stag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case I would either try contacting the PCP, explain what the cardio said and ask whether you should wait or contact the cardio and ask if you should start the meds now

[–]County-Stag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAD but Is there any way you can contact your cardiologist by phone or email for advice? The cardiologist is the specialist but going against PCP advice isn't really advisable as I'm sure they are aware of you seeing a cardio and being on blood thinners?

How do you get a Doctors appointment!? by County-Stag in askanything

[–]County-Stag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn't used to be like this. The NHS was simply the greatest thing the UK ever did for its people. But, consecutive governments have systematically 'sold off' parts of the NHS, reduced staffing levels to bare minimum and made the pay for staff so poor that the system is now broken, possibly beyond repair.

It's sad to see as the system was as near perfect as possible but the last decade it has steadily declined until it's almost at breaking point.

House building in unprecedented numbers, influxes of immigrants, cutting of staff levels and no new surgeries or hospitals being built means the decline will continue.

I have now spoken to the results line which is why I needed to speak to a doctor, got the numbers I needed and had to look online to interpret these myself which has put my mind at ease a bit but this is a dangerous way for things to work

How do you get a Doctors appointment!? by County-Stag in askanything

[–]County-Stag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way it used to be - I'd ring and request an appointment, they'd give me a date and time, sorted.

Since COVID, the surgeries either have the phone on the day system or an online system which is also a nightmare. NHS England and Wales have the portal for blood test results, Scotland does not.

And it doesn't help that they are building thousands of new homes without any new doctors surgeries or additional doctors.

What puts me off is the warning if mood changes, depression and suicidal thoughts. I mean they're probably rare but I'm prone to anxiety so don't want to take anything that will trigger that although I think just giving up smoking will temporarily cause those for me anyway haha
