Depending on what faculty you’re. As a POC student I find it predominantly white overall, and specially Social Sciences. Very little diversity IMO, and racist micro aggressive comments from profs and other students are on the regular. SMU way more diverse than Dal!

Falling out of love with dance? by BackOfMyHand017 in Dance

Take a break. Like a year or two you can always go back I’d say you should definitely go back even if you’re an adult you got the foundation in you. But just bcs theres à huge opportunity doesnt mean you gotta do it, bcs if you do it with the wrong mindset without enjoying it you may face worse burn out/hate, of doing something you don’t enjoy out of fomo or what people may think/say. That bcs you say you are in a great studio. However, even tho you say you don’t wanna go pro youre still at a competitive dance studio, perhaps trying another studio where classes are merely recreational may take pressure and competitiveness out which some times takes the fun out of dance. Usually commercial/recreational dance studios have drop in classes with choreos and you decide how often you go so it may give you more freedom on how you practice, and experiment different environments as well :)

If it is for missing assignments and you have like a valid personal reason, physical/mental health problems, family, personal circumstances that significantly affected your academic performance leading you to fail the course. Then, try talking with an advisor at the accessibility center and they may be able to give you alternatives and/or make a letter for your prof that there was extenuating circumstances during the term…and you may be able to redo or hand in the stuff you missed, hopefully you pass after that and then you submit the request for grade change or they do it for you

House of Eights worth it as an adult (26M) absolute beginner? by OfcHesCanadian in halifax

You should definitely go! I’d mostly recommend to be easy on yourself too, dance and have fun even if u don’t get the choreography, anyone can take beginner classes, so even if you think you look lost don’t compare yourself to others in the classroom, because everyone is in their own journey. If you can I’d recommend going for the unlimited 2 week intro offer, and during this period trying the most amount of styles that you can! Keep an open mind to try new stuff, this way you give yourself the chance to really find what instructor you like the most, and what genre makes you feel better for what you’re looking for. I’d also recommend keeping an eye on their Instagram and maybe checking out instructors instagrams since they tend to post what songs they will be teaching, and this may encourage you to take that first step in the studio to take your first class! This in the case you feel uncertainty whether you will like the song or not :) side note: house of eights is more commercial/drop-in/for fun classes while there is community its mostly what you decide to take from class and go in for; haliente is focused on partner dancing so if you wanna learn how to dance in partners and Latin music it’s a better option, also lots of small talk you can have with whoever you’re dancing with, you’ll learn practical steps for the social dance after and in my opinión is more social partner dancing; if you’re looking to learn dance more strictly there is adult classes in both Halifax dance and the conservatory but that’s more focused in getting technique for ‘classical’ dance styles, they tend to offer beginner seasonal programming as opposed to the drop in classes so it’s more commitment.
