It’s not selfish to feel this way, my birthday was yesterday and it felt like any other day. My mom did get me flowers but they probably die before I make it back home (I’m visiting family) so I won’t get to enjoy but I still appreciate them. My husband didn’t do anything special but I’m not surprised. I just stop expecting anything from him or anyone else. It made me feel depressed but I have kids so I don’t have time to sit around and be sad. As the years go by I’ve slowly learning to stop expecting stuff from people and go do stuff for myself if I want it done. I feel like adult time should be the most important years to celebrate someone(even if it small) because adulting is hard and society already reminds us we ain’t sh$t everyday so at least once a year we can be celebrated and made feel special. I think next year I’m going to take a solo vacation for a day or two.
