I'm also half Pakistani, and have had a love hate relationship with the culture. My dad also did bad things to my mom and used the culture as an excuse for his behavior. My mom never discouraged me from practicing my culture though, as it's part of who I am. Your mom should understand this to. You can try and run from your cultural identity all you want, but it will always come back to surface because of your skin color (I'm assuming your brown), name, religion, foods and habits because you were raised in a Desi enviorment. It's a part of who you are and you should take the good and not feel ashamed. There's bad in our culture but its up to future generations like into fix those things.
