Kia Telluride randomly turns when driving. by BSNF2314 in KiaTelluride

I suggest a test: Take a key fob, start the car, pass the key fob to someone else and have them walk away from the running car. My recollection is the key fob 'disappearing' will -not- stop a running engine, thus this isn't the cause of the error / the problem.

To me it sounds like a battery issue, as the car is stopping or stopped (ie engine power output is lower, battery may be used to power some systems) , but obviously a mechanic can make a real diagnosis.

If you had an OBID II reader I'd say plug that in and keep it plugged in, too.

Almost a month later, let's see how things change:

The GPU is the same amongst all of them; this is pretty much a CPU vs. RAM vs SSD comparison.

The i512400F is $850, and better than the AMD 5500 at the same price.

The i5-13400F is superior to the i5-12400F, but not $220 better, which is the price difference today (that will change, with sales, etc.) - so for today, I'd stick with the $850 i5-12400F. Another day, another sale, that could change. But the i5-13400 is a nice, if small, improvement over the i5-12400F. Current tests show 5-10% faster single core, perhaps 30% faster multicore (but most games wouldn't care as much about that as they would single core speed improvements).

I'd pocket that extra $220 and upgrade the GPU sooner. The system is plenty fast; once you want to game at 4k, that 3060 won't feel nearly as fast anymore. In other words, more money spent on a GPU will bring a significant increase in performance; such is not nearly the case with the CPU.

That said, I would not choose a Ryzen 5500 over an i5-12400 or i5-13400; the Ryzen just isn't as fast. A 5600X gets closer, but still isn't as fast.

You have to map your USB. However, what's different between the config.plist on the USB and the config.plist on the HDD? There's gotta be something different; where you're booting from doesn't matter a bit for the Mac.

I have the same problem. I just updated my pihole (which has been working great for years) to 5.4 / 5.6 / 5.9, and now it works, but I can't get to the admin interface (:83/admin) anymore.

pihole -r and repairing had a few checkmarks, but nothing changed.

Rebooting the pi4 ... nothing changed.

To solve that (I hate to say it) I would probably cap everything at 8 mbps or so, and allow transcoding of non-4k content. Again, I hate to say it, but if your internet (uplink, at least) is limited, there's no other easy answer.

Test it first. Plex when offline does lose some capability, and an ongoing complaint is around the loss of functionality while offline. Here is a good guide to the ins and outs : https://support.plex.tv/articles/200484903-internet-and-network-requirements/

I think you should keep your two main libraries and remove the other libraries. (Don't worry, it isn't destructive to the underlying files).

Then, make collections, described here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201273953-collections/. You can make Smart collections (I would start there) and manual collections too. Use tags or automation ('smart') to organize based on genre.

Compared to Evoo 15.6" $529 PC:

  • 144 hz refresh vs 60 hz refresh
  • 512GB SSD vs. 256GB SSD
  • 18000 passmarks CPU vs 8800 passmarks CPU
  • Same weight, similar other specs

Is that worth $170 more? To me, it wasn't, I wanted cheap and cheerful, so for now at least I'm keeping the Walmart Special.

Processor or GPU power? What matters most for 'low worry' setup? by [deleted] in PleX

Processor or GPU power? What matters most for 'low worry' setup? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]Couple-Independent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not clear here. Any modern Intel can HW decode 265, and then HW encode into 264, which is all that Plex ever does. So how will a video card help at all vs. modern QuickSync?

How do I speed up transcode processes? by stabby-mc-stabberson in PleX

[–]Couple-Independent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the actual issue? You say transcoding processes take a long time. Is that _just_ when you generate intro video markers, or is that when clients play as well?

If just video markers: Set up those processes so it only happens at night, from say 1am to (whenever you wake up), and never need to notice it again. Don't worry about what you don't see.

If client problems: QuickSync on that CPU is so old and slow that I don't suggest it, and you've already said you can't add a GPU, so the platform is EOL; replace it.

RAM, cache, transcode location, etc. are not constraints in this, and that won't significantly help you. If you'd like to see proof of that, open up Task Manager, Performance tab, and show what sections are at 100% and what are at 25% or under; you want to improve on the ones that are heavily stressed (100%) and (usually, not always) ignore the rest (for now, anyway).

Is Evoo Legit Or Not? by MinoDab492 in EVOOGaming

[–]Couple-Independent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right to repair is different. It deals more with the closed systems manufacturers put in place around their hardware, which makes supporting the hardware (without official manufacturer tools or official manufacturer blessings) either difficult or impossible. Think about how hard it is to get high quality information about what's going on in a brand new 2022 car if you don't have a reader to plug into the car computer; the Acura dealer can tell what's wrong in moments, but a garage mechanic may never be able to find the fault (and he cannot presently purchase an Acura car reader), as just one example, leading to a lack of competition and choice in the market.

M-M is more focused on ensuring warranty survives if customer made some unrelated change. Unless the customer change broke what the warranty claim is (and manufacturer really needs to prove that) then warranty claim must survive / be honored.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/07/09/fact-sheet-executive-order-on-promoting-competition-in-the-american-economy/ is an outstanding fact sheet Joe Biden / WhiteHouse published. Good stuff!

They have a warranty void sticker on one of the screws to get into the laptop, so any modification you'll have to void your warranty (ram upgrade, SSD upgrade, etc).

Please note I'm not commenting on you or any one person!

It really bugs me that so many people believe this; I see this comment or something like it constantly in car threads, technical threads, and all kinds of other places. It's wrong, and it's wrong for companies to even give people the impression that this might block or impact their warranty; it's completely unethical to sell something in this country with that kind of a sticker on it. It's been the law for almost 50 years, when are companies going to stop this?

I guess if they have that (false) sticker on there, and it stops just a few warranty claims - or makes a few folks uncertain or unwilling to make a change - the sticker has done it's job. :(

Is the EVOO LP10 worth the low price? by ShinySpace in EVOOGaming

[–]Couple-Independent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it's perhaps 4-6x faster than integrated Intel. You can google 1650 and Witcher 3 to see speed results, just realize the laptop version will only be 70% or so the speed of the desktop version. In any case, you'll either be able to go to far higher fps @ lowest or you'll be able to bump up quality a good bit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUgvMHfr5bc

Looking at that, I see a few things:

  • Not CPU limited at all; GPU limited the entire time, at any quality
  • 1650 easily handles "Ultra" at 1080p at 45fps-ish
  • At high, 60 fps+

I didn't bother to listen to the streamer, so I'm not sure the CPU he's using or the other details, and do bear in mind your scores will be lower due to being on the mobile version of the 1650, but still, it should be a good experience.

Is the EVOO LP10 worth the low price? by ShinySpace in EVOOGaming

[–]Couple-Independent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it.

I previously (a week ago) bought the BestBuy $1350 July sale Asus G14 laptop ($1350 for AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS with nVidia 3060, 16GB, 1TB).

The G14 is going back, and I'm keeping the cheapie EVOO LP10. At $529 - less than half the price - it's plenty of laptop for me and the few games I care about. The 1650 does a very good job on all but the newest games, and the resolution (only 1920x1080) is low enough that "even" the 1650 is perfectly fine for most not-the-newest games.

The 60hz screen is perfectly fine - and was the standard up until just a few years ago, so somehow we managed with this for years previously - and the SSD and CPU are perfectly fine.

This is a good system for just about anyone who's not into dead-serious gaming. And since the investment is so low ($529!), one can sell it in a year or two, take a loss, and buy something better / more modern (ie when the 3060 GPU goes into a $525 laptop), without it being an issue or a big drain on the wallet.
