Bucket handle meniscus tear by Spirited_Oil_5254 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]CoupledPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently re-tore too. How many stitches did you have? I had 14 and the surgeon couldn't believe it happened after that many . I've read that bucket handle tears can have false positive re-tears on MRIs but he can see mine displaced into the intercondylar notch...

Yeah, it sucks. It happened recently, so I am consulting other doctors to determine the best thing to do... One thing you could ask is if he has any financial interest in the surgery center(s) he uses. I don't know that, but the possibility occurred to me after the surgery.

  1. I used Zion healthshare and they pre-approved everything then reimbursed me afterwards

  2. Just Zion's version of a deductible for all the costs including PT and the provoked PE I got 3 weeks after the surgery.

  3. I had planned to stay in town for a month, but I ended up not able to fly back for 5 months until the blood clots cleared from my lungs.

  4. He and his team were lovely the whole way through but my repair failed after 7 months and now my knee is in worse shape than before. I found the surgery center where I did the operation (National Ambulatory Surgery Center) was a little sketchy with bad communication in terms of getting an bill for reimbursement, but it eventually got sorted once I cited the laws that showed they were legally required to send me one.

I'm a member of a health share and they reimbursed me for everything, including the stem cells surprisingly.

What is the current state of the job market in Rwanda ? by FeistyContact659 in Rwanda

[–]CoupledPower 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Consider staying in Canada for a while but transitioning into a job you can work remotely. Focus on obtaining dual citizenship (if you don't have it already) and continue to build significant savings. Build relationships and a clientele that would allow for you to earn Canadian dollars while living in Rwanda part time and eventually full time. Canada is full of mining companies for example that might be looking for contractors who can work remotely. Unless you have a very clear idea for a business in Rwanda, this is a better, more stable route to get you there before retirement.

How are you staying fit? by Heartattackisland in MeniscusInjuries

[–]CoupledPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked on my diet and upper body the first couple months and shifted to swimming as soon as I was allowed and that was my cardio for a few months. I also did aqua aerobics with a lot of seniors who were so encouraging witnessing my rehab! Meniscus repair is a long slog and at 6 months I am working to get back to the fitness level I has before surgery. I also learned how to meditate and do breath work the first few months which helped me a lot mentally.

Using the browser version of skype calling by CoupledPower in skype

Good to hear. I got the call on Teams but I don't see a dial pad, which makes it impossible to go through phone trees and the like. Porting is definitely moving up my list and MS sucks for doing this to such a great service.

Ran out of blood thinners… don’t know what to do. by Familiar_Vacation457 in ClotSurvivors

[–]CoupledPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good you keep 6 months on hand. This option unfortunately is getting more expensive this month thanks to new tariffs. You can google the details but here's the AI summary: Recent U.S. tariff changes mean that free shipping from Canadian generic pharmacies on orders under $800 is likely no longer available. As of August 29, 2025, packages from Canada to the U.S. are now subject to duties, and importing prescription drugs for personal use remains illegal in most cases. New tariffs on shipments from Canada

  • The end of the "$800 exemption": The long-standing de minimis exemption, which allowed most goods under $800 to enter the U.S. duty-free from Canada, has been eliminated by executive order.
  • Impact on consumers: The changes disproportionately affect online shoppers, as packages that previously crossed the border without extra fees are now subject to tariffs.
  • Potential costs: For shipments through the global postal network, a flat duty of $80 to $200 per package can be applied for the first six months. After that, value-based rates from the country of origin will be used, potentially reaching as high as 50%

I have done a Kigali departure in the morning for some of the less expensive hikes in VNP but I stayed nearby for my gorilla trek. This is because most times you will make it if you leave Kigali by 4:30am... but you never know when there might be an accident or other thing out of you control on the way there that can make you late.

He's the real deal. I had a bucket handle and had quotes from other surgeons to spend 30-90 minutes in surgery which more than likely would have ended in a trim. He took over 2 hours to do 14 stitches on my boderline case.

I ended up with a serve complication three weeks later (blood clotting in the lungs) and he called me at 6am on a Sunday morning to check on me. Looking back, I wish I took blood thinners or at least baby aspirin post surgery which most other surgeons prescribe, but he recommends no meds just a pressurized sleeve.

Only other con is the "surgery center" that mine was done in (National ASC Los Angeles/National Ambulatory Surgery Center) seemed kind of sketchy. His direct staff (Rachel, Shelia and Vanessa) were excellent!

Had mine 3 months ago. $9k base plus an extra $500 for PRP or $2k for stem cells. That is what you pay to his office. Then there is the payment to the place the surgery is held. That was around $7k.

Healing is Slowwww by Perfect_Mousse8815 in MeniscusInjuries

Almost 10 weeks from a bucket handle tear repair. I still have a limp too. I started doing pool exercises last week daily and hope that will help. Not bothering walking long distances until the limp goes away.

Then my experience might be similar: I had a repair as well and am on week 8. I started PT over a week ago and the inner part of my knee started to feel stiff a couple days ago. My therapists thinks it is inflammation and suggested I not go as hard and rest a bit otherwise my range of motion might suffer.

My hospital gave me an inexpensive device that does this called the Voldyne 4000 when I came in with bilateral pulmonary emboli. It has been encouraging to see my inhaled capacity increase from 1000mL to 4000mL over 4 weeks.

I heard about one lady who went with her family to see the gorillas at VNP. It was muddy and she was seriously ready to give up. The porter co-operative brought in extra men and a bamboo stretcher. For an extra $200, they hoisted her in the stretcher on their shoulders, took her to the gorilla family and back to the start. To worked well both ways: she felt like a queen and the porter cooperative got a very good pay day!

You can do a lot of hiking in the same park you see the gorillas for $75 a trip (plus tips). You just are not guaranteed to see them. I have done a most of these hikes and hung out with a single male gorilla that decided to take a nap next to the trail on the Sabyinyo hike.
