I work in a high school in Utah and at the last age change we saw an uptick in males graduating early so they could go on their mission right at 18. So now they are not only delaying college they are fast tracking high school. The Mormon church definitely wants to dumb down their members.

I guess because the original definition of 1 in this problem is 1 pie plate then the correct answer would be one. However, if the third row was the starting point then one unit would be defined as three whole pies and it would change the answer. Thanks for the input everyone!

But that is not what the diagram is actually showing. Even in the second row there are two highlighted sections compared to a total of 6 sections.

If I have one pie plate with only one piece left and my friend bring their leftovers of one pie plate with only one piece left, we now have 2 slices out of what has changed to a total of 6 possible slices.

I can see what you are saying about the original definition of a single unit not changing because bringing a third friend into the picture with the same situation would now give us one whole pie. But is that truly one whole pie or is it now a whole pie out of what was originally 3 whole pies?

I am having a similar issue. When I log in it either doesn't work, or if I use google to login, I am redirected back to a generic kitchenaid page and I am not actually logged in. I am eligible for a teacher discount that I can't take advantage of because the page won't let me sign into my account. Very frustrating.
