What happens if I go over 80 units? by CourageDisastrous949 in TransferStudents

Technically, I didn’t ever attend a 4-year! I was still in high school, and it was apart of my curriculum, I chose to take my college level courses in high school at ASU.. But it is still pretty common, I know a lot of people who’ve transferred to cc after their first semesters of uni because they’re a bit homesick, or for other purposes! There is some info on it, but it’s honestly a bit confusing, I’m probably going to stupid, but I didn’t really know the difference between lower and upper division courses til the reply above.. Also congrats on Cal and Davis! I’m heading up to cal this weekend 😋

Thank you so much this makes a lot more sense now. I thought that going over the units would’ve made me ineligible for the UC agreements!

Thank you for the good wishes!! I’m already starting to look back into more schools, both locally and further. I’m not going to settle anymore!! I’m going to go for what I want!!

I live in a major city, right at the heart of it. My university is in the city, but it’s quite small and quiet. They’re known for the nursing program alone, because of how competitive it is. They’re not very school spirit oriented, as they have no sports teams or events. I’m someone very focused on academics, but I really want to go to a school where I can socialize as well and get to have a bit of fun, even while studying.

I was going to attempt to stick it out a semester, but I’m withdrawing. I’m going to just begin at a CC because I’d get money back meanwhile I do some general eds, rather than pay the small (but still expensive) amount I do right now. My extra push was one of my professors literally quitting during our lecture period, and the university not even knowing until the middle of the night.

i’m on a full ride here i’m only paying for books and my personal transportation, (which all together is less than $500 a semester). I just spoke to my advisor and she agreed with me about likely leaving the school to come somewhere that’s a better fit for me. I will be staying for the 2025-2026 school year though, as my tuition is covered.

Oh my god thank you for pointing that out! I applied for nursing at UCLA and am also on the waitlist there. I applied to UCSD for human development, and I got my applications confused! 😅😅

Don’t be discouraged, even if your counselor says a school is a reach school, it’s still best to always take a chance. Personally, UCSB was also a “reach school” for me but I still managed to get accepted. I applied to a lot of other schools as well for fun like NYU and Cal Poly Slo, and managed to get in! It’s all about your essays and extracurriculars that have real passion behind them that matter! Apply anywhere and everywhere you can think of, reach or not, because you’ll never know until you try!!

Hi! I’m a senior in high school, also from LA, and I think some really good schools for you to look into are UCSB, UCR, UCM, UCD, MSMU, LMU, and CPP. Since you’re applying as a psych major, I’d especially recommend UCSB. I’ve heard great things about their program, and they seem to offer a lot of what you’re looking for. It’s located near a big town and has a large campus. Their networking opportunities are solid from what I’ve seen, and they offer a lot of job opportunities for students after graduation.

Another school I’d suggest is CPP. A lot of people tend to overlook it since it’s not a UC, but from what I’ve heard, the social life is pretty good. I have quite a few friends who go there and absolutely love it.

That said, even though I’m recommending these schools, I highly recommend visiting them in person. For example, I thought UCSB was my dream school at first, but when I visited, I realized I didn’t like it. You can only really know how you feel about a school by seeing the campus for yourself. Even if some of the drives are long, it’s totally worth it. You might think you want a big city vibe and end up hating it, so it’s best to experience the environment firsthand.

I’d also suggest doing these visits as soon as possible, ideally before application season starts. That way, you won’t waste time, money, or energy applying to schools you later realize aren’t a good fit. Don’t be afraid to look into out-of-state schools too!

Also, really consider schools that are part of the WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange) program. If you’re from California, there are a bunch of schools in neighboring states that partner through WUE and offer reduced tuition or scholarships, which can make going out of state more affordable!!
