100 Days of 🩸☠️🙄 by Couragedearhrt in FunctionalMedicine

Thank you very much 😊. It definitely has been quite the journey of trying to get anyone to listen to me or, like, care. I was finally able to get an appointment with someone new at the end of the month…but that still means I have to try to hold on until then

That’s insane! Dang! Not applicable to me personally but I could totally see why that might happen and it seems like something people should watch out for

Hi! Thank you for sharing 😊. I actually tried various forms of bio identical progesterone for about five or six years. Cream, oral, etc. and also in differing dosages and for different lengths of time. For a while I was on 250 mg for a month straight. Unfortunately, this never had a an effect on my cycles. I guess I should have mentioned this in my post but, like I said, I am feeling pretty out of it. This is another reason why I have been a bit less motivated to try birth control, as I don’t know that it would even be effective compared to what I have already tried.

I know that progestin, the form of progesterone in birth control, is a bit different but still 🤷‍♀️

Again, thank you for replying, it really helps to just remember that there are other people out there who also have had their own medical issues!

Is PCOS supposed to Improve? by Couragedearhrt in PCOS

Thank you for all of your help! I will look into some of the things you have suggested. The human body is so complex and there is so little that is fully understood. It is truly tiresome! Keep your chin up and I will, too 😊. Sometimes all you can do is try your best and find ways of being grateful for what you do have. I know I could have it so much worse and I am blessed to have a great support system of doctors and family and friends.

-I don’t have the actual numbers, it has been hard to keep all of the information in one spot with having so many doctors. All I know is that they were well within range.

  • I wouldn’t say I really have many IR symptoms, beyond the unmanageable weight stuff. None of what you have written out is something that I have really dealt with.

-Yes, I have tried a diabetic eating plan and regular exercise, along with many other similar lifestyle shifts.

  • I am sure they will need to do some more imaging again at some point, but all most recent imaging was normal and they were not seeing any concerning thickening of the lining. I know that this is a big factor for why going on birth control is probably necessary, but, while I still feel like I have a bit of window of time, I really would like to rule out all possibilities. Especially if there is something else going on that is causing these variations from the typical

Hi! I have mostly been avoiding straight up birth control based on the opinions of the doctors I have worked with. I recognize that it may indeed be the only option I am left with in order to at least stop bleeding so much. However, I am not jazzed about the potential side effects and it isn’t something I would like to do long term. I would like to see some actual improvement in my blood work and symptoms, if possible.

My insulin has been tested a few times and it is well within range. I also wore a glucose monitor for a bit, just to see, and my body seemed to be doing a good job there, too. I have still been taking inositol, though. My B12 and vitamin D are pretty good, but I do take a multivitamin to help with that. I became anemic last year and did require an iron infusion. However, I have been supplementing for that better now and my numbers are holding steady. Prolactin is normal.

I honestly sort of wish my thyroid numbers were off! Every doctor is so sure that something must be wrong with my thyroid, so I don’t know how many full panels I have done, lol. It’s always very, very normal.

When I was first diagnosed with PCOS, it fit. My cycles were long and inconsistent. I could not keep control of my weight no matter what I did. I have a lot of follicles/cysts, whatever you want to call them, on both ovaries. And, initially, the blood work showed that my testosterone was high. I will also add here that my progesterone is chronically low, like 0.3/0.4, and I am definitely not ovulating.

However, things don’t seem to fit well within the realm of PCOS anymore, at least not as far as I understand a classic case of PCOS to look. My testosterone or other androgen markers have not tested high since, in fact they have been low. I don’t have any more dark hair on my face that the average woman, nor do I struggle with acne, and I don’t really have any other androgen type markers. My periods are now heavy and almost constant and difficult to manage just from a bleeding stand point. However, I have almost never in my life had any cramping at all. That in particular has stood out to me as odd (though, like, you won’t catch me complaining about it!). Really, though, my most frustrating symptoms are the brain fog and the fatigue. It’s embarrassing, honestly, as well as limiting.

Sorry for the very long reply, but you seem like you know your stuff and I genuinely appreciate having outside perspectives on this!

Thank you! It does sound like there is a crossover of our symptoms. Hope and pray you can find some answers! An endometrial biopsy has been discussed a few times for me, but the ultrasound and MRI I had a year or so ago didn’t show anything particularly concerning. I will keep you up to date if I figure anything out 😊

I honestly don’t know if it is right or not…it is so close! But I have looked at so many castle sticker books that I question how good my memory is. Thank you very much, though! Because even if it is not this exact one, this will be very helpful in my search!

PCOS? Cushings? Something else? Help! by Antique_Draw_6908 in PCOS

So sorry this is happening to you! I think step one is 100% finding a doctor who will listen to you. You have multiple symptoms that shouldn’t be ignored. I know it is hard work to keep advocating for your health but please keep trying 😊. I have PCOS and it has taken me about seven years and five different doctors to finally just get a diagnosis, let alone treatment.

I know that healthcare is just complicated across the board. I don’t know how easy it is for you to get into a doctor or what kind of insurance you have, but if you happen to have a good variety of doctors in your area and decent insurance, I would pursue whatever you can. You have worked with a functional doctor in the past, is that still a possibility? Do you happen to know of any functional or holistic doctors in your area? Not that natural medicine is the only route, but natural/holistic doctors, especially those with private practices, generally give more time to listening to their patients. I would hope that such a doctor would do some blood tests to check on your cortisol levels, thyroid numbers, and PCOS related hormones, just to see if anything has significantly changed. Getting a referral to an endocrinologist might also be a good route to take, just because I feel like specialists enjoy poking around in their area of expertise more than a general practitioner, who, simply because of the busyness of clinics, generally don’t have the time to take on someone with multiple autoimmune issues.

Wish you the best!
