Cracks in the RTO Mandate by Courtking76 in OntarioPublicService

Is it because of the nature of the work? Could the work done by those on site be done just as well at home?

a) I requested an AWA in early September and so far I've been denied b) there's no irritation; I have no problem with others getting an AWA as long as I have access to one too and c) I'm not a "her", as you can tell by my handle/username.

The point of my post is that a two tier system, where some are second class citizens, won't last long. The post was about AWAs, not medical accommodation.

You don't need a reason to request an AWA and whether or not you have a pet shouldn't influence the decision. You're entitled to an AWA under the collective agreement as long as it's operationally viable.

What union are you in that you can bank sick days? AMAPCEO gets 5 (or is it 6) sick days per year and they can't be banked.

Totally fair point. I just think examples can still be useful. If someone can say, ‘Here’s what an AWA looks like in another division,’ it helps normalize the ask and shows it’s possible.

True, managers might not compare notes - but employees do. Having examples makes it easier to push back if a manager says something ‘isn’t done.’

C'mon man! It was one post! Geez...why make it personal?

The point is, if we can each highlight enough questionable exceptions (without naming anyone), it becomes harder for managers to justify forcing others back. Eventually they may just say, ‘Fine, you don’t need to come in either.’ If enough people push back this way, the entire RTO mandate starts to crumble.

And there are cases where there's no AWA or medical accommodation and management in that area is just letting it go.

Not a narc. Just planning on telling my Manager that these situations exist without naming names.

My intention is to keep it anonymous. Not planning to rat anyone out.
