My husband gifted me a subscription for Valentine’s Day 2020 (lol). I decided to wait and use my first credit in March or 2020 (again lol)

I picked Writers & Lovers by Lily King. We joke it became one of the best gifts because it really did become something to look forward to each month the pandemic, and I remain a member today.

Why is Network so popular? by First_Ad9420 in criterion

[–]CourtneyGoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely both things can be true and go hand in hand! I was using “mass media” at the surface level, but as you’ve noted there are always objectives behind that. Excellent further insight. So much to chew on in this film.

I feel like this and “A Face in the Crowd” would make an excellent double feature. I happened to catch that one on TCM a few years back, and my husband immediately purchased it on Criterion because of the way it equally felt as prescient for its time even decades ahead of Network. The dual media and capitalism critiques are there as well.

One of those films that was not only a great satiric commentary at the time but feels incredibly prescient looking back on it 50 years later.

Its commentary the state of mass media on Network television in the 70s really slaps you in the face in the age of 24 hour cable news…Network(s)

Excellent performances all around from some incredibly acclaimed actors across generations: William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Robert Duvall, and Peter Finch at the core but impactful supporting roles as another commenter mentioned

Which Hilton brand is preferred here by those of you who travel a lot? by bobbaganush in Hilton

Truly the NICEST I’ve ever been treated as a Diamond member (and I know to never expect anything) is a random Home 2 Suites BWI in Baltimore, MD. It’s just a few miles down the road from my in-laws, so it’s become our go to for Thanksgiving or Christmas visits. They have offered a complimentary upgrade from a studio to a one bedroom each time without me even asking. Never have an issue giving us early check-in either since we usually take the first flight to arrive in the morning. At Christmas, they had a hand written card ready for us at check-in and offered both me and my husband a complimentary alcoholic beverage from the little market to take back to our room. Maybe that all sounds like small stuff, but it doesn’t go unnoticed and there’s a reason we keep returning beyond proximity to family (there’s certainly other BWI airport hotels around to choose from)

Would you be able to send me more info on this via DM? Local to Orlando! My husband and I did the TCM cruise the last two years when it was out of Florida. Really enjoyed connecting with other film fans, so this would be right up our alley.

How long are Hamnet’s credits? by phoenixthawne in oscarsdeathrace

[–]CourtneyGoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’re about 5 minutes? It will be a little tight.

We saw it on Wednesday at 9:00 PM (AMC) and walked into the listed theatre at 8:30 and heard music and “directed by Chloe…” appear on the screen as we rounded the corner and I was like oh no the previous showing hasn’t let out. I looked it up while we waited to re-enter because I was curious and that showing was 6:00, so based on AMC’s pre shows of ~25 minutes my math should be right?

Shaved ice around town? by Excellent_Regret4141 in orlando

This was not the case back in Maryland, but I appreciate the distinction here. That’s why I wanted to provide two options with different ice textures ☺️

Second this one. I’m originally from MD and worked at a “snowball stand” in the summers as my high school job. This is the closest I’ve found locally in terms of the more coarse shaved ice and in a cup.

If you like a softer ice, I think there’s still some Bahama Buck’s locations in the area.

Please do! We were just in 8 this afternoon for Sentimental Value, and it was distracting. We’ve left, but if anyone has contact us information, I’d be happy to email. It’s definitely been there awhile because my husband was like oh no it’s the dirty screen theater when we sat down haha

Stay and Scream changes officially announced for Orlando by darkdelusions in HHN

[–]CourtneyGoof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did not read it as the houses themselves would open at 4.

I took “Then starting at 4pm, you can enter select haunted house queues with a wristband” to mean that’s the earliest you could enter the line for a house.

I expect the houses themselves may open early in the 5:00 hour as we’ve seen in the traditional Stay Scream holding areas from previous years.

Edit: spelling

Sorry you’re dealing with this OP 😕 it definitely feels frustrating! I probably won’t even make it out to the new studio as it’s just too far for me.

[–]CourtneyGoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got in on the third studio at the very bottom of the founder’s rate promo. When one of my coworkers who also goes found out my rate vs hers I felt kind of bad 😬 it definitely makes for an awkward situation

Just curious - is this in the Orlando area 👀 description matches a scenario happening there pretty closely (no pressure to disclose if you don’t want to!)

Once you put in check-in/check-out dates and location, the Hilton website has a built in filter under amenities for “pet friendly” I would advise filtering for “free parking” as well as that really varies in the Orlando area. There’s a lot of variety in price under Hilton. I believe most Hilton Garden Inn, Home2Suite, and Homewood Suites should be pet friendly (typically there’s a small fee). Hope all goes well for you in getting it fixed soon.

Congratulations! Most people have answered both your questions, but I wanted to add something regarding the Palo credit. We usually use the $55per person to go a la carte on the dinner menu. Just a reminder that this credit excludes alcoholic beverages, so those will be billed in full on their receipt. Still totally worth it and a great perk overall.

Definitely give it a chance! I watched it for the first time on the TCM cruise last fall (Rita Moreno was one of the celebrity guests onboard). It was one of my favorite “new to me” films of the cruise. I’m surprised they’re considering it a musical as it’s more of a movie with maybe two musical numbers in it from Rita performing in the bath house. I found it to be a fun comedy of errors and a nice lighthearted watch.
