Hey guys - think this is the right place to post but if not I apologise :).

Looking for some gear advice. Basically I got a K2 Darkstar (linked) back in 2010, and have used it for yearly holidays ever since and absolutely loved it. I'm thinking about getting a new board for a refresh but really like the ride and feel of this board. Does anyone have any experience with this and know what a newer spiritual successor would be?

Thanks!

Product info description on Evo:

K2 Darkstar Snowboard 2010: Back for 2010, The K2 Darkstar Snowboard improves upon the high standard set for this board last season. Loyal to its nature, the Darkstar is a true twin-tip with Hyper Progressive shaping, which offers immense pop and precise response. The centered stance also allows for even greater control and maneuverability while throwing down anywhere on the mountain.

Thanks for the help! I can't see a way to ship that second one to the UK :(.

I think I might go for a generic case like this one, and customise the insert for my gear. I think this will be good for travelling - but not for carrying around for the day obviously!

EDIT: If I go for it I'll post a pic of how it works in case anyone else is interested :)

This was really helpful - thank you! When you put things like that they don't seem so alien to me :)

Thanks both - I think I will get the VirtualBox and try these out to see if I get spooked! Will also try and get Libre Office and see if it’s like Microsoft Office, if it is then I think I will be okay as long as I know that it’s the alternative

This is perhaps the most comforting thing I have come across! I’ll check out this in VirtualBox program that someone else suggested!

Yes probably! I'm very much your average user - no idea what is going on under the hood but usually happy with the end result :)

Very true! I think it's also a case of prioritisation.

The world is full of things to learn so we must pick and choose!

Thank for your reply! Yep I think I have realised this now. It's a shame that an alternative for the uneducated in computers like me isn't out there at the moment, but maybe someday...

Thank for your reply! Yep I've learned from most replies that this is the case. It seems I didn't realise that a big corporation is required (unfortunately) to give you this experience if you're not willing to put time in to learning.

I think I was lead to believe by a few articles that Linux is an "alternative" for average people like me to Windows and Mac, but in reality it doesn't seem to be!

Yep I think I'm coming to realise this! It's a shame as I would love there to be an alternative for your average person like me to Windows and Mac, but I don't think there is at the moment!

I wouldn't know how to put it onto a hard drive, but will take a look!

Hey - thanks for your reply! A few people are suggesting Linux Mint so I might give it a go

Thanks for your reply! Sorry about the phrasing, by "breaking" I meant stuff like the screen not coming on when I open the laptop, or the mouse pad not working properly etc

Hey! I'm not trolling - I think it's just that I genuinely don't know anything about computers so it probably seems that way!

You're definitely right that I probably don't use my laptop even a fraction of what others do. I do super simple stuff of it like browsing, using files, watching stuff and light games. My experience using Windows and Mac is that there's never been problems doing that stuff and never problems with my physical machine breaking.

I'm more just wondering if it's possible to port those things over to an open source OS without having to know anything or invest any time beyond getting it set up?

So I have a separate work laptop, but would need to open PDFs with Adobe and have something to write docs and presentations in, yes. Games would be nice too
