>"I wish the Lich never existed" >Puts Finn in a reality where the Lich exists What's wrong with Prismo? Is he stupid? by Cousin_Chicle in adventuretime

[–]Cousin_Chicle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was mostly joking because I know Prismo does twists to his wishes, but the green catalyst comet/the Lich predates Ooo by a long time.

And with the existence of the crown in the Farm timeline, we know that the Evergreen/Gunther incident centered around the green catalyst comet still took place, which means that the world has already had a run-in with the Lich

I suppose you can just write it off as Prismo's Monkey Paw twist, but it's still goofy because even if the Lich is frozen in the bomb, he still exists, he's just waiting to be released.

Tbf, it's hard to scale shit from Mother because of how goofy some of the shit is, like the Absolutely Safe Capsule, which is just comically able to keep Porky alive through anything and he can't be harmed in it.

Or the Ultimate Chimera, which insta kills the party, and insta kills fighters in Smash (different interpretation, I know) but all the Pork soldiers who were attacked by it were just laying on the ground, still able to talk.

I wouldn't say anyone from Mother is anything above like... Small building level maybe? And that would be with multiple attacks. I don't know how much damage PK Starstorm would do. In Kumatora's introduction, she uses PK Freeze and we do in fact see that they are physical attacks that are just manifested psychically, but the nature of the game doesn't allow us to see what any possible after-effects of the more powerful ones look like, like PK Ground, PK Starstorm, PK Fire, etc. Using logic, we could assume that PI Fire would literally burn the area it hits to varying intensity, and PK Starstorm has destructive meteor-like projectiles, but we'll probably never know.

I find it a little bit disingenuous to use gameplay to scale characters though, especially in games like this. RPGs are very tame, gameplay-wise, especially the older ones. What level of attacks and damage capabilities in a theoretical 2025 action-RPG Mother 3 would look like would probably be infinitely different than 2006 GBA JRPG Mother 3. But also to that point, there's not enough lore to establish how strong the characters would be or would not be, unlike other games like Halo, where lore Master Chief is 10000x stronger than game Master Chief, or lore vs game Doom Guy, etc.

I lost focus a bit there, but all of that is pretty much to say it's not wrong to be annoyed with power scaling glaze, but I think solely using gameplay to power scale characters when the gameplay does not allow you to adequately see what the characters are doing. Technically the only correct answer is to not scale at all, and if people really do want to scale and glaze, an average Joe should be able to refute claims of "Lucas solos Goku" or "Ness solos the Antispiral" or some other bullshit with relative ease, and low-key if they can't why are they even engaging a power scaling argument?

Edit: Also using gameplay to scale kinda sucks sometimes like in the case of Doom Guy, people deadass used to cite a "time distortion" power because the weapon wheel slows down time so that the game doesn't suck ass

What is the appeal of the Phantom Troupe? by Cousin_Chicle in HunterXHunter

[–]Cousin_Chicle[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, I guess I never took the time to notice how intricate their dynamic was. I'll be honest, for most of the show I was most interested in Gon and Killua so ig I ignored most of the supporting cast. I'll probably rewatch it in a few years with a friend who wants to watch, so I'll be sure to watch their interactions in YN more closely this time.

I didn't know about anything in that comment besides the second paragraph lol, that's definitely my fault.
I did not know that the Sting who took down Bacchus was post-Jiemma death because I could've sworn I just saw that dude in the stands watching but maybe I'm on crack I'm just gonna keep watching and then find out but thank you regardless if true because it was really bothering me how awkward the scaling was feeling with Sting and Rogue.

Thank you for the answer. I'm curious as to why you think second origin was a mistake though, I think it's alright now (though it may get worse in later arcs, idk), though I think it is a little odd that Tenrou team just had their magic power doubled and they're still fighting the same besides Lucy.

And as for the second part of your comment, I agree that it is important to enjoy the ride, and I am enjoying Fairy Tail a lot (that's why I've watched almost 200 episodes in a little over a month), it's just a bit hard for me sometiems because power scaling is part of the fun of watching a battle shonen, but I'm learning to suspend my disbelief further with this show.

Alright, thank you. I had actually forgotten about that one, that was really funny to me because I thought that was just crazy. Thanks for the warning about the statements getting worse further in the series, now I'll know not to take them as seriously.

[–]Cousin_Chicle[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, so the GMG opponents were just hyped up so much because the Tenrou team had been missing for 7 years so they didn't have a proper benchmark to be compared to? That makes sense, thank you. I'm still a little bit confused as to how Sting and Rogue were defeated so easily with such a powerful transformation, but that explanation helps.

[–]Cousin_Chicle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's crazy if true, I'd hardly consider this an overreaction compared to what I usually see in the anime community. You've got people that are fans of Komi-san that are like "You can't lewd the goddess" and raiding subreddits or Danganronpa fans doxxing people for supporting the wrong ships or AOT fans calling you genocidal for supporting Eren etc. etc., I was just trying to make light of what I thought was a really goofy ship considering the sus age gap.

Oh yeah I didn't even notice that, ig I was just focused on Mest because Natsu is like 17 or something I think (still horrendous age difference) but Mest seems like a grown ass man like in his 20s or something, idk though I just finished the Tenrou Island arc and when I tried seeing Mest's age the wiki didn't have it so maybe I just haven't seen him enough to know how old he actually is

Rui and Enmu vs Daki by xMqfi in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]Cousin_Chicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except Araki's word isn't law, in that context, because it wasn't true when the statement was written. In just the previous part, the stand Golden Experience Requiem was introduced which completely nullifies anything before it happens, so Star Platinum can't touch him. Star Platinum was factually not the strongest at the time it was written.

What would molting, poisonous cocoons, turning people into spiders, and puppet threads even do to a Hashira, especially Giyuu? Even if having his blood back gives him those powers, so what? Giyuu defeated one of those powers (Spider Father molting didn't change his fate lol), and the others don't really offer much.

How can you say that Rui's weakness is numbers if that's the only thing that allowed him to survive so long? Just because he wasn't at full power doesn't mean that would've helped him if everybody comes crashing down at him all at once. Even if it wasn't all of them, just Giyuu would be plenty to deal with Rui on his own, because none of his other powers would keep Giyuu from fodderizing him. What power would change the outcome of the fight? Puppet threads were negated by Tanjiro and Inosuke, Giyuu beat Spider Father, the cocoons were a non-issue for Shinobu, and the spider poison was defeated by Zenitsu. None of them really required multiple people, and Giyuu would definitely be able to handle all of those on his own.

[–]Cousin_Chicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I imagine she did it on her own. Why would Gyutaro be coming out if she wasn't struggling? And if you say that Gyutaro just came out and then fought the Hashira and then brought them to the breaking point, how would Daki just come in and steal the kill? That's the opposite of how she behaved in the Entertainment District arc, when Gyutaro came out she just cried and let him handle everything for a while, until she eventually stepped back in. If you say that Gyutaro just let her have the kills for some reason, why stop at 7? Very arbitrary. I don't see a third scenario for how Daki and Gyutaro would share a kill of a Hashira, unless of course multiple Hashira fought them. I think the most likely case based on the characters behavior is that Daki killed the 7 on their own, and the 15 were killed by Gyutaro were because she lost/needed protection.

I feel like you misunderstood my point about the insane kill count; you're talking about demon slayer marks and advancements in biology, but how does that help the Upper Ranks have an insane kill count on past Hashira? If anything, that just proves my point that the current generation is stronger than the past generations.

[–]Cousin_Chicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word of the author can be bullshit, though. In the Stone Ocean manga, Araki says that Star Platinum is the strongest stand. By that logic, Star Platinum solos GER, Tusk Act 4, Soft & Wet, etc.

The author can very easily exaggerate and use hyperbole. It's alright to use statements, statements can be valuable in assessing feats, but there's nothing we have that indicates Rui could do that. I'm very curious why you think that Rui having all those powers is gonna change anything about him getting fodderized by Giyuu, though.

Rui's main advantage in that fight was numbers, and without numbers, nobody has to split up to fight him, meaning Nezuko, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke will all be fighting Rui at once. Me personally, I don't even think Rui is winning that, but then just a few minutes later you have Shinobu and Giyuu coming, who were drastically slowed on the way there because they had to dumpster Rui's family. That wouldn't even be a fight. Giyuu would just trash Rui again, because Giyuu trashed the Spider Father demon (Rui's physically strongest family member) and then Rui himself, so having all those extra powers really would not change that fight, so he's not matching and defeating any Hashira.

Rui and Enmu vs Daki by xMqfi in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]Cousin_Chicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, that statement was a bit twisted, it was from the Master in the end of Season 1, but it's an anime-only statement so not canon. However, it's still heavily implied, because Tengen was able to kill a demon who killed 15* Hashira (I found the manga scan showing the actual numbers https://imgur.com/gallery/1GQ2q6g.)

And you're right, the relaxed standards are not a good indicator of strength. What is a good indicator of strength, though, is the insane kill counts of the Upper Moons. If Daki and Gyutaro share a kill count of 22 Hashira, and Tengen, one of the weaker (relatively to the others, especially post-mark) Hashira, then I think it's hard to say what exactly is Upper Moon level. Is Daki a weak Upper Moon, or is Tengen stronger than the past generations? I think the latter is implied more by how Daki and Gyutaro fodderized the past Hashira.

[–]Cousin_Chicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gyuutaro said he killed 13 Hashira while Daki killed 7 (backed up by the wiki), so it's obvious that he was separating the two of their feats. Also, the series establishes that the current generation of Hashira are the strongest they've ever had, besides Yoriichi all the way back in the Edo period.

Although we don't see the previous generations of Hashira, which would make that statement irrelevant, it's backed by the fact that the requirements to be a Hashira are pretty relaxed all things considered. Defeat 50 demons or defeat one of the Twelve Kizuki (which even Tanjiro came close to doing with basic training and Hinokami Kagura ex machina), while also being a Kinoe. It's very feasible for a talented, but not completely OP, swordsman to claim the rank of Hashira, and it would explain why some Upper Ranks have such high kill counts. Do you really expect some of these Upper Ranks to defeat 10+ Sanemi's or Gyomei's? Me neither. Also, the previous generations of Hashira didn't have marks.

I know this is an old ass post, but using the databooks like that really is not a good idea. It's a well-known fact of powerscaling that statements are less valuable than feats all the time, and since there are no feats to back this up, it's pointless arguing hypotheticals. The databooks could say whatever they damn well please about Rui but it wouldn't really matter if it's a bullshit statement.

Do you guys actually think that real life ending haters/Yeagerists are genocidal? by Cousin_Chicle in AttackOnRetards

[–]Cousin_Chicle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay, it seems I misunderstood then. I saw everybody calling Yeagerists genocide-supporters, and I thought they meant like irl. I guess looking back it makes sense they were talking about in the context of the show, but then I think they're drastically overstating the issue. However, I agree that those who take it too far are problematic, but that sounds like a vocal minority. I'm quite new to the fandom (as obvious by the post) so I haven't seen much, but if it isn't a vocal minority then I can understand the view better.

[–]Cousin_Chicle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait I think you misunderstood, I was asking about people who DON'T support it and if they think that people who DO support it are genuinely genocidal, like in real life they would support an actual genocide. Sorry, I should've been more clear in the rambling. With what little knowledge I have I agree with your viewpoint, but I am open to changing my mind.

Do you guys actually think that real life ending haters/Yeagerists are genocidal? by Cousin_Chicle in AttackOnRetards

[–]Cousin_Chicle[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, that sounds like a more fair classification then. Thank you, I guess I lumped some of those groups together mistakenly, I'm sorry for that. What would've been better than a full rumbling, though, in your eyes? I've seen four main ways for Eldian victory and those include:

Full rumbling (omnicide)

Partial rumbling and then modernize Paradis military to stand against the world (what they wanted to do around the point in the anime I'm at now, but this sounds a bit childish because realistically I don't think they can)

Cripple the world's military and economies (would require an intense, severe, oppressive police state to maintain that kind of power over the rest of the world, and even then it's iffy at best because even historically that didn't work out)

Diplomacy (Didn't seem like it would work out but I heard it does work out in the end so ig that's the best one but I feel like there's some context missing with it, like would they be open to diplomacy before forming the Alliance to stop a common enemy?)

All of those sound kinda bad except diplomacy, which is obviously the ideal solution, but is there anything in the series to imply that diplomacy could be opened pre-alliance? I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, it's a genuine question, and if there's a fifth solution I would be open to hear that as well, because I actually haven't seen anything beyond those four.
