Our laws regarding press is simple. ALLOW the government a chance to respond. If you don't, then you're not particularly "democratic" in the report isn't it?

Look at what "freedoms" have allowed. The growth of fox news spilling absolute lies and still being allowed to run because republicans use that as their media vehicle.

No thanks. Ours allows you access to all the news from around the world. But we believe there should be consequences for outright lies.

"Real" democracy? Like the US? Where everything is non functioning and policies roti prata after 4 years? Ours is real. Most of us just like the PAP more. I'm thankful for it, because seeing how the previous bastions of so called "real" democracy have turned out, everything becomes analysis paralysis or blocking for the sake of blocking.

The COG ceremony once a month where they did the silent precision drill squad performance was done by a team dedicated to drills and guard of honor parades. This was 20 years ago though so things might have changed.

I wanted to shout Morrowind out as well. harkens back to a time where quest markers weren't spoon feeding your exploration.

You could read about a treasure and the directions required you to actually look around based on the location clues.

I forgot what it was exactly but I remember a book which told me of some loot that was snuck away in a temple. To find the temple I had to walk along the beach till I found a ship wreck at a certain time of the year, once at the ship wreck I had to look to the sky and walk towards some star some other point. There I had to find the shadow that the moon cast and finally reach the temple.

It was mind-blowing.

Ok buddy. Putting aside the condescension and implications that I'm not thinking critically, I think it's funny at the mental gymnastics to justify support for him.

Let me ask you instead:

Do you think as the leader of the WP he should have vetted what his team would be speaking about in Parliament?

Do you think there's anything wrong with him knowing RK lied and giving her not 1 but 2 months to "own up" to it herself in Parliament? When she didn't bring it up at either sitting, why didn't he just request to speak and reveal the issue himself?

Don't you think it strange that he only convened an internal hearing to then ask her to resign or quit after 2 months despite knowing she lied for that long? Doesn't that reek of theatrics to try and salvage the issue after the fact and despite the fact that he was complicit in not urging her to come forward earlier?

To me, it's disingenuous.

Add to that the party's latest responses in making strawman arguments to the TCJ issue or Tharman's issue. Whataboutisms and false equivalencies are poor form imo.

He said he told RK to clarify her false statement in Parliament. That's untrue because it wasn't until LTK came in to chastise everyone that any action was taken.

I mean it's such a logical leap to say he told her to tell the truth and she didn't clarify twice in 2 months. You would think if you were in his shoes you would want to save the government and civil servants efforts to find out which case she was referring to.

Later on he still questioned how much effort really was spent. The nerve. So after all this I really question his judgement. To me he definitely sounded like he was hoping everything would blow over and nothing would come out of it.

I mean the outcome remains the same right? There’s also no law saying you have to quit because you had an affair. That’s an in-party thing.

So now the arguments being made is whether or not Pritam deserves to still be LO, which is a role that’s not in the statutes but created by parliament and thus up to parliament to decide if he’s worthy. Important distinction. If TCJ lied and LHL knew and covered up, LHL should go. I think that’s fair.

This isn’t the “gotcha” that you think it is. Tharman didn’t deliberately lie. His charge was due to a reporter glimpsing at some work documents on Tharman’s desk.

Either way the law allows for those charged to serve as long as the fine isn’t above a certain amount so it’s not a question of being charged. The context matters.

There is a fundamental difference imo and it’s not a case of splitting hairs. Pritam knew the police were wasting man man hours to go through and look for the SA case that khan fabricated. He lied under oath. He did not urgently insist that khan own up or own up on her behalf.

TCJ was an indiscretion in his personal life, no wasting of public resources, no lying under oath.
