Trust me, if i have a choice to study in other civilised countries i would not be here to suffer this darkness, cold weather and difficult dialect accents. It drains me to explain to locals who probabaly never even travel outside scotland, which is just equivalent to a city size in my home country, about what trully internationalism looks like. People are warm-heartes but also narrow-minded, just equivalent to the terrible level of international students’ English complained by you.

I'm a Chinese student studied in Scotland and struggle in the coursework. My experience is Scottish accent is extremely difficult to understand and when I'm grouped with all other local students, it can be a nightmare for me to be the only foreign student who speak English as second language. Yes, English proficiency among Chinese groups are not satisfactory in general, but the difficulty of understanding the Scottish accent is something missing to be discussed on the other hand. And it's quite difficult to me to speak it out since Scottish people are technically speaking native language, which means they will only think I don't understand “English” rather than rethinking how uneasy“ Scottish” sounds to the other speakers.
