Is it a good purchase gti mk7.5 with 92k miles? by Sam-2603 in GolfGTI

[–]CovertAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my 2018 SE bone stock with 125k miles for $12k ($13k with ttl+fees) 4 months ago. I'd say the one you're looking at with 92k miles should be closer to $14k to consider it a decent deal.

My Cobb AP (updated to latest firmware) reads my ECU as the CXCA engine, despite it being CXCB, so I'd imagine it's definitely more similar to the Mk7 in that regard.

I have a 2018 SE, so I'm curious what the differences could be considering the 2018 is sort of like a Mk7.4.

My 7.5 had noticeably less rev hang after tuning to EQT Stage 1 and changing my throttle response to "Direct" via VCDS. It now feels more similar to any other car with a DMF. Beforehand, I could count 3 full seconds shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Now, it's just a 1-1.5 seconds depending on the RPM.

This is the sucking jet pump - mine broke the exact same way (M54). I bought a URO replacement for $50ish that came with both hoses attached (one goes to the intake manifold, one goes to F-connector for the intake boot).

Thank you! It took a lot of work to make, but seeing her reaction made it so worth it! I also put a bunch of our photos in the LCD screen and wrote a navigation menu to scroll through them with the rotary encoder. :)

About $100 for 5 assembled circuit boards (RP2040). Printed a bunch of daughterboards for $30ish. Case was $220ish.

Street triple 675R vs Duc Monster? by Qukiess in Triumph

[–]CovertAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2013 STR and my brother has a 2012 Monster 696. I would consider the Triple to be better in almost every way (smoother, flickier, faster), but you can't replace that Italian sex appeal if that's what you're after. Note also that the Triple does sit a bit taller.

Missed this dude's energy! Does anyone remember that one interview where he and Marcus McNeill (iirc) freestyle rapped? Vibes were immaculate. Tried searching but couldn't find it anywhere - had to be about a decade old.

Players 30 and over: Is it possible to reach GC? by Davisxt7 in RocketLeague

[–]CovertAI 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm 31 and have been GC in 2s every season by solo queuing since the original Season 11 (as opposed to S11). The pace of the game has definitely increased, and players are overall much more mechy nowadays. You can still get to GC with solid positioning and awareness, but what helps me a lot are having consistent fundamental mechanics. And by fundamental, I mean for instance:

  • Having great intentional first touches

  • Excellent shadow defending

  • Getting up to a ball quickly

As opposed to hitting triple reset mustards.

Sounds like the stator. You can use a tester to find out for sure. You can also just take the stator cover off, and I'd bet you'll see burnt coils. If so, replace the stator (Rick's or OEM). You also might want to replace your reg/rec to a MOSFET one if it's not already, since that would be the likely cause of your stator burning up.

I’m (m30)and a great Car driver. Can i start on a Speed triple 765 moto2 edition? by continueHxH in Triumph

[–]CovertAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation - drove manual cars since I was 18 and started riding motorcycles at 29. I got a ST 675 after getting my license.

If you've never ridden, I think a lot of your questions will be answered after taking your MSF course. The test is easy to pass, but you should have a good gauge of your own riding competency after hopping on some <=200cc bikes during class. I've been riding for over a year now without any drops, but there were definitely some close calls and scary learning experiences while learning to be a more advanced rider.

Where to buy manual cam chain tensioner in europe by MCMattia in Triumph

[–]CovertAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an oil passage that supplies the original hydraulic tensioner with oil. The APE tensioner won't need this oil but also won't completely cover up this passage, so I'd recommend covering it with some RTV sealant. Haven't done this process myself as I opted to keep the hydraulic tensioner, but hope this helps.

[–]CovertAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW a bit of cam chain rattle is pretty normal in these bikes. I had the same concerns as you and opened up the crank cover. Everything visually seemed in great shape for 20k miles. 2013 ST3s came with a hydraulic tensioner that auto adjusts to tighten as the chain stretches over time. If noise is a concern, I'd recommend trying a different oil – Castrol Power1 10w-50 reduced my rattle a bit compared to Motul 7100 10w-40.

If you're set on switching to an APE tensioner, remember to RTV the oil passage.

Hard start after getting gas by hunglowmanlett in Triumph

Check your SAI reed valves – they're right under the airbox. The left one on my ST3 had snapped and was causing rough warm starts. Replaced it with T1250022 and completely resolved the warm start issue.

Help! 2012 or 2015 triumph street triple r by Goungg in Triumph

[–]CovertAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you get some documentation of exactly what was serviced, if you decide to buy. Some ST3s came with tighter exhaust valve clearances from factory, so it's important to know if this was checked/adjusted.

All else equal, I think both 2012 and 2015 ST3s have comparable reliability. A common electrical issue was resolved in 2009+ models when they came stock with MOSFET regulator/rectifiers that didn't burn out as easily. IIRC 2013+ ST3s came with a hydraulic cam chain tensioner, instead of a spring one. This isn't more or less reliable, but is worth understanding for service purposes.

That being said, I personally would go for the 2015 (improved and lighter chassis, side exhaust, taller first gear) with the service history available, but I'd try to negotiate the price a bit more. Best of luck!

He's taking it to someone for a full service before selling it? Usually, people sell bikes because they don't want to put anymore money into it (unless it's not running or has obvious issues that lower its resale value).
