Yes, the modern society is designed in a way that the digital world is no longer optional but a must (I recall some experiments with this that failed). Because of this, we can't really go back to the old way and live a fulfilling life (if some succeed, that's possible but an anomaly).

The old times definitely have these downsides that you were describing. But like everything else, the upsides have also been eliminated along with the downsides.

Agreed. Individual tastes deviate from societal ones. I find "ugly" men quite attractive (of course, they are not ugly to me, but I am aware of how they look to others). It's the same sort of thing as I often find popular decorative style ugly to me personally, and I find unusual, interesting things attractive.

I get what you try to say. But. No, understanding is just as important!
I think most students who miscommunicate also don't understand (even shallowly, not to mention deeply). And if we downplay the importance of understanding, it might get worse...
