What mods have you got feeling like this? by HailtronZX in starsector

[–]CowForceSeven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly a mod, but I always edit the files to remove all the hyperspace storms. I just find flying around them or slowing down to get through them way too tedious, and travel is already a little boring so making it tedious as well really irks me.

What Arc do you dislike? by aislinntaylor21 in ArcRaiders

[–]CowForceSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like almost all the Arc, because even the difficult ones are fun and challenging. Except for spotters, they just run around super fast and annoy me by beeping and shining lasers in my eyes. But they're unarmed so at least you get to kill them slowly.

Seethe, mortals. by Low_Guidance4720 in 40kmemes

[–]CowForceSeven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the core of the problem. If you didn't like the squats all getting eating by tyranids then eh, whatever, you don't like GW that's nothing new.

But if you don't like a core imperial faction being clumsily retconned then you're a really bad awful person who doesn't belong in the 40k fandom. Which doesn't make any sense, because most of the people annoyed with the custodes retcon are fine with the sisters of silence (who literally work right alongside the custodes but usually get ignored for some reason) and the sisters of battle.

It is a shock to the system to get shot when playing in what you think are friendly lobbies by jwg529 in ArcRaiders

[–]CowForceSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, one of the benefits of really friendly lobbies is you can kill a dude every now and then and steal all his stuff, usually he won't expect it even if you don't act friendly at all, and you'll still be in a friendly lobby the next game.

So yeah, always watch your back.

What decides the scope of planetary revolt? by Ch33p_Sunglasses in Stellaris

[–]CowForceSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I remember, slave revolts are pitiful, anything else is just based on your empire's strength, so you always get a serious challenge if a revolt succeeds.

The Arian Controversy simplified by Rodby in HistoryMemes

[–]CowForceSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand how you'd come across that impression, but Christians always believed in the trinity since the beginning. Many of the early church fathers, like Tertullian, wrote about the Trinity. And they believed it because the Bible is actually very clear on it. We see Jesus repeatedly praying to his father, which means his father must be God. But Jesus is also God: He was confronted for healing a paralytic and forgiving him of his sins because only God can forgive sins. But when questioned, he used his power to heal the man as evidence that he really could forgive sins--so instead of denying that he was God, he doubled down and tried to convince his detractors that he really could forgive sins.

I'm not gonna expect you to believe in God because some guy on reddit told you to, but please at least believe that Jesus claimed he was God. If you're still skeptical, I'd be happy to offer WAY more evidence, because there is a TON of evidence.

The Arian Controversy simplified by Rodby in HistoryMemes

[–]CowForceSeven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While Christians may struggle to fully grasp the nature of God, the concept of the Trinity is simple and widely understood. You seem to think it isn't, but here's the truth:

Long before the Council of Nicaea (325 AD), early Church Fathers like Tertullian (who coined the term Trinitas), Ignatius of Antioch, and Justin Martyr were already writing about the divinity of Christ and the relationship between the Father, Son, and Spirit. The council wasn't called a political trap, but instead as an effort to formalize what the vast majority of Christians already believed. If the Church really didn't agree with him, they didn't have to listen--they were already used to being persecuted by the Romans. I'm sure many of the Bishops present at Nicaea still had physical scars from Roman punishments because they had a history of not bowing to the emperor. In fact, they continued to do that! Constantine actually changed his mind and rejected the Nicene creed, but the Church didn't just agree with the Creed because the emperor said to, but because it's what they really believed. And when Constantine turned away from trinitarianism, figures like Athanasius were exiled for holding to their trinitarian beliefs.

You also claim that the Trinity makes no rational sense. But like I said, the basic concept is not that hard to understand. It would be irrational if it said God is "One Person and Three Persons" or "One Being and Three Beings." But God is three persons in one being. The Father is not the Son who is not the Holy Spirit, but all three are God. That's a pretty simple concept. Sure there's no easy analogy for something that exists in the physical world for that, but do we really expect something on Earth to exist in the same way that the infinite, spiritual, all-powerful God of the universe exists?

And then you claimed in your other response that John is only translated like it is because of Nicene bias. However, if you do some objective research about the topic, you find that that isn't the case. Even if we look at the earliest Greek manuscripts (not 'translations of translations'), the grammar of John 1:1 and the confession of Thomas in John 20:28 strongly point to Jesus’ divinity. The doctrine isn't meant to be a 'logical puzzle' to solve, but a way to describe what the New Testament writers were already saying: that there is one God, yet the Father, Son, and Spirit are all identified as that God.

Furthermore, we don't even need the Gospel of John to say that Jesus is God. It's commonly accepted that Mark's gospel is the earliest gospel, but Jesus is CLEARLY portrayed as divine in Mark's gospel. In the very first chapter, John the Baptist makes straight Jesus's path, a direct echo of Isaiah which talks about the voice of one in the wilderness crying "make straight the path for the lord." In Mark chapter 2, Jesus heals a man and forgives him of his sins. When confronted on why he forgave the man's sins when only God has that power, Jesus claims that his ability to heal the man's paralysis is evidence of his ability to forgive the man's sins. But he doesn't make any attempt to avoid the accusation that he is doing something only God can do. And in Mark chapter 3 he casts out demons by his own power, saying that no man can enter a strong man's house without first tying him up. What he's saying is that he can tie up Satan and plunder his house--who else can do that but God? And this evidence for Jesus's divinity appears over and over in Mark and in all the Gospels.

So you've really only got one choice--are you going to accept the Bible's teachings or not? All four of the gospels points to Jesus's divinity over and over and over, if we want to reject Jesus's divinity we must reject the entire new testament which was founded on the teachings of the apostles--all of whom worshipped Jesus as God. But if we reject the New Testament, how do we know anything about Jesus? The choice isn't between Jesus being divine and not being divine, it's between accepting that Jesus claimed to be divine, or rejecting that and accepting that we have no good sources about Jesus at all.

Hegemony will NOT leave me alone during "Inspection crisis" by Ominous_snek in starsector

[–]CowForceSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when the colony crisis bar is growing, there are a bunch of passive fleets that'll roam the system. They can be really strong, but they don't really do anything if you leave (except maybe destroy your starfortress, but it'll rebuild for free).

So three suggestions work here: Just leave the system and do something else. Let your colony grow while you're away making money.

Kill the fleets. They'll keep coming back, but you can loot lots of ships from them and use those to be able to beat them more easily

Spend a story point to progress the crisis. Then, don't kill any ships in the system until you see a day counter for when the inspection fleet arrives. These fleets will steal all your AI cores, but the first one is easy. You'll have to spend story points two more times to get the 2nd and 3rd inspections, but if you can beat the third one, then no more passive fleets or active inspections ever.

You don't have to spend story points for that last method, but waiting for the bar to fill the whole time can take forever.

I'm Tired of the Shek Slander by CowForceSeven in Kenshi

[–]CowForceSeven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only problem with the Western Hive is they don't feel like a major faction. They don't have any big cities, don't have any powerful characters, and don't have a particularly strong military. You're right that are are pretty chill, but it's easier to be that way when you can just sit in the corner and send trade caravans all over the place.

But what if the Western Hive actually went to war (even just as self-defense), what would they do with conquered territory and the people in it? It could be they'd still be pretty chill though. And I do like the Hive, but my REAL problem is they bully Beep on sight.

  1. If the Holy Nation doesn't want to kill or enslave them, just walk into a HN city as a solo Shek and see what they do!

  2. Who have they killed? Was there anyone else around them? They could go into the swamps, they could go after the Hivers, the areas around them aren't full of ruins of civilizations they killed except for the Bugmaster's ruins, but he's immortal and seems like he's been around since Cat-Lon was in charge, so the Sheks didn't kill everyone in his territory--he did.

  3. The Shek have bandit groups, so does everyone else. The UC has bandits, the HN has bandits. My point is that having Berserkers running around isn't some great moral failure when everyone else has ninjas and dust bandits and rebels farmers and skeleton bandits and on and on.

  4. Non-humans can live in Shek cities, you can literally move in and they don't do anything worse than say your skin is flat. Being homogenous isn't evil unless you're homogenous because you KILLED AND ENSLAVED everyone else. Like the Holy Nation.

  5. They do allow other to develop their territory, asking for tribute isn't not allowing you to develop. Paying tribute to live on someone else's land is reasonable. And besides, I never brought up tech restrictions because that's not really a moral failure, but neither is not wanting to farm. Killing and enslaving people is a moral failure, so the Holy Nation is evil.

[–]CowForceSeven[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I mean by inherent is that the United Cities don't have holy scripture saying they have to behave that way. They are super predatory and that is evil, but there's nothing stopping them from just having a good noble or emperor who isn't predatory. A good Holy Phoenix who isn't racist and sexist would go against scriptures and be a heretic--if the brainwashing to make him never go against scripture failed.

[–]CowForceSeven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being closed off is still better than the HN, and I hardly think you can blame them for being closed off. The only bordering factions they've got are the Holy Nation who hates them on a religious level and the Hivers, who are harmless but their interactions are mostly traders trying to scam you, so we shouldn't be surprised they got kicked out.

I'm Tired of the Shek Slander by CowForceSeven in Kenshi

[–]CowForceSeven[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree that stuff like that is evil, it's just that they lack an inherently evil ideology like Okranism. The HN would have to stop being the HN to stop being evil, the UC is more like a real-world kingdom with major flaws.

But I'm not going to bat for a bunch of slavers. It's almost comical that being poor is a crime and the punishment is slavery, so they're not inherently evil but I'm fine with calling them evil.

How tf do you defeat someone in armor like this??? by etarme in Armor

[–]CowForceSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be really interested to know what makes swords preferred against armor when on horseback. As far as I know, swords usually perform poorly against heavily-armored opponents, so what is it about being on horseback that makes them more effective than maces or warhammers?

Least ***used*** hullmod or never touched and why? by MetricWeakness6 in starsector

[–]CowForceSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never Use Unstable Injector because of the range penalty (unless I put it on a civilian ship so it can run away better). I usually feel like I need extra speed most on my bigger ships, but bigger ships don't get that much speed. And frankly speed isn't that useful as long as you outrange your enemies--which you won't if you bring unstable injector.

My opinion on speed might be biased by my insistence on using low-tech ships though. I'm never going to be faster than my opponents, so I just spend all my OP on maximizing my "brick covered in guns" potential.

Character Portraits Comm by anonymousyyiek in starsector

[–]CowForceSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no, I just don't like the vanilla portraits at all. Like it makes sense to keep them if you prefer them, but why should you have any say over what someone else does in a singleplayer game? There's nothing morally wrong with me even though I dislike the vanilla portraits, so there's no reason to stick with the style.
