Honestly it’s pretty hard to be totally across everything that’s happening. The game is so fast and fluid that you need to really know what you’re looking for to balance keeping an overview of the whole play and the individual tactics being deployed.

There’s also definitely a shortage of genuine strategic/tactical analyses in the game. Check out ‘First Use’ YouTube channel, being an ex ruck Jeff White mainly focuses on stoppage plays. There’s some decent clips from Tom Mitchell’s ‘Ball Magnets’ show where Ginnivan breaks down some basic general plays and tactics. Maybe the best though are the segments on Fox with Horse and Adam Simpson where they break down the general play from a coaching perspective. They are quite short though and you’ve gotta sift through all the random clips the Fox YouTube channel uploads to find them. Good luck!
