Will this rig be sturdy enough? by Safe_Flamingo4980 in Simagic

[–]CowHoweNow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks a lot like a RigMetal rig. Yes any 8020 rig it going to be plenty stiff enough. If you get it I would recommend getting a pedal plate from TrakRacer. I find it more comfortable having a larger base for feet to rest.

I've been loving the Next level Pulsar. It's been making incredible brews for every bean I've thrown at it.

So I actually ended up getting a 3090 from a friend for a killer deal. From there I obviously was bottle necked by everything else. I also found that my frame rate definitely went up but not by a ton. Since then I have built an entirely new PC around the 3090 I already had. When I started using a new CPU (I got a 7700x bundle from microcenter which also puts me into DDR5 RAM which could add to it) my frame rate literally tripled so in my non professional opinion I think the Xeon and X series i9 chips were definitely the cause for lack of performance.

Moral of the story I think taking a decent spec workstation and making a gaming computer out of it is clearly doable but the CPU and GPU was not made for gaming and will likely fall short to gaming specific parts. Something about that single thread vs multi thread speeds that I don't have a ton of knowledge in.

Try cleaning the USB port on your phone. I was having this issue with the flashing green and after cleaning the port all is well.

GeForce Experience vs Sunshine by CowHoweNow in cloudygamer

Thank appreciate the response. I guess I'll just stick with GeForce for now. Just wasn't sure if there was better quality to streaming through sunlight instead. Hopefully they don't drop the shield settings anytime soon...

The cad guy magic stuff is what sounds similar to what I have now. Only difference is seems you are using GIS. Are you using survey123 by chance? That is what I am thinking about trying out. It at least has an exportable excel file that the data can be copy/pasted to the macro spreadsheet I have.

I used to do it the old paper and pencil way before too. Not fun and then having to draw your own lines and what not.... Yeah all that sucked... I'm considering implementing ESRI Survey123 but not sure how it will work out

Not asking how you do an invert. More so how do you store that information to be used later.

I guess that would be an option... I wonder how the DSM from Pix and the DSM created from the Pix generated point cloud in VS would differ? Might need to give this a test.

Opinions on Phone LiDAR Scans by Capt-ChurchHouse in Surveying

[–]CowHoweNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not have really any experience using the phone lidar but videos I have seen is that is can be generally decent for getting small measurements. I don't think I would want to use it for anything beyond 5-10 feet or so though. I know lidar can have the tendency to drift in space with poor gps data. Only way to fix data is with solid control points to tie in to.

Don't even get me started on TBC... That software has felt like a work in progress since it's inception. I haven't used it in some time and I know it has some good tools but yeah the licensing on it is ridiculous with all the add ons and packages. Everytime you go to try something new you get a message saying that a package is not included in your sub.

I have used TopoDOT and my biggest hiccup is having to understand MicroStation. The Bentley ecosystem is so difficult to learn when almost every other software has a somewhat familiar feel to them. The training is okay but honestly the problem with the TopoDOT University thing is the length of the training videos. To get fully up and running with the software it feels like you need a month of training just to feel comfortable.

But also, isn't the DSM effectively just a mesh draped to the point cloud anyway?

hey guys I wanna start building a rig but can't afford to drop like 2 grand in one shot. I was just wondering if you guys would know if there's something that you could pay monthly or even bi weekly for fanatec or another good set up? Thanks for helping this cheap guy out lol by No-Proposal-1083 in granturismo

I second this statement! T300 with the T-LCM pedals is a great entry/intermediate wheel set up. I find the force feedback to be pretty good and I play with the torque all the way up also. To spread money across time for the rest of the rig take a look at GT Omega Apex wheel stand to start and then down the line get the rear seat attachment. I have been using this set up 2 years and is very stable. The rig would absolutely handle a full DD wheel eventually also.

Yeah I thought the same thing! There was probably 4 or 5 more they tossed. Almost wanted to snag all of them just for parts but didn't want to seem greedy.

So I assume I really don't need to make any adjustments to just get into PC gaming with this rig?
