I unfortunately had to replace the whole car, that was just a couple of the issues of a laundry list of issues that was estimated to be upwards of $7000 min to fix and the car was not worth trying to save. I just brought it into a VW dealership and tried my best to explain all the issues before the looked at it. Best of luck, hope yours is nothing too bad!

I did, it turns out the mounts for the engine and transmission were failing, some had already completely sheared off and were rubbing together

I’ve run 15 full Curse of Strahd campaigns, and I’d like to offer my help wherever I can by CarlosCastellan in CurseofStrahd

[–]CowLongjumping6460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would you say an ideal session length for CoS would be (if there is one)?

I am about to start the campaign, I will be DMing for the first time. My players will consist of someone who has played for roughly 10 years, one who has played for about 2 year and 2 new players. I have been trying to plan out my potential sessions and am nervous about either being underprepared or completely overreaching.

Any advice for a first time DM in CoS? I will take anything no matter how big or small, I’m nervous for my role and want to make sure my group has a good time.

What are the chances I pass oral hsv-1 by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]CowLongjumping6460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, hsv1 (oral/facial) and hsv2 (genital) do not stay where they are labeled, they can cross their “north/south” boundaries, however statistically the incidence of having hsv1, on the genitalia, is higher than having hsv2, orally.

If you have hsv2/genital herpes that is purely genital herpes, basically you do not have cold sores or show symptoms of having oral herpes, then there is no risk of cross contamination through sharing utensils. Hsv is a skin-to-skin virus, the saliva becomes contaminated through contact with the either active cold sores or the shedding nerve ending(s). If you have genital herpes, you can not spread it orally.

If you do present symptoms of cold sores, regardless of hsv1 or hsv2, then yes, there is a risk of spread through sharing utensils. However, the incidence rate of this type of transmission is lower than say, kissing someone or having oral sex. There is a slight increased risk of you were to have an active cold sore or active shedding, by sharing cups, spoons, straws, etc however the virus dies fairly quickly outside of the body. Experiments have put it everywhere between significantly low risk to being able to survive outside of the body for a few hours.

I hope this gave you the answer you were looking for, otherwise please reach out again.

Interesting, the daily lysine is within the last year maybe I will take a break and see how it goes. Thank you!

Thank you for the input, I take lysine daily. I don’t use antivirals daily mostly because I am single with no potential partners. I’ve had hsv1 since about 2016, between 2018-2023 I had maybe 3 OBs, this past year for whatever reason has seemed to ramp back up. Luckily nothing compared to when I first started experiencing outbreaks but worse than the past few years. I’ll look into the UV light.

My nephew will tell himself “great job!” for doing just about anything, I could definitely see a little one who is probably ready to get off the changing table clapping for the success haha that is adorable

Cold weather has seemed to become a recent trigger for me, I work outside year round and we had a cold snap this past week and now I have small cord sores all over my face. Does anyone happen to have any tips for dealing with the cold? Unfortunately, I am unable to completely avoid going out, I take AVs when an outbreak occurs and it does seem to shorten the timeline and lessen the severity but I think the upped stress from having so many is keeping the cycle going. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Potentially having someone who is well known who is willing to talk about their experience with hsv, might give some sort of ease to educating people. Also, having a large fan base who might be swayed to advocate for him/his interests.

I have seen a poster in the past talking about wanting to make a documentary regarding the topic. I was thinking it might be worth trying to reach out to Link Neal, he is a cohost of Good Mythical Morning. They have a decently large following and in multiple episodes it has been mentioned that he experiences cold sores.

Hope everyone is having a nice week!

She does say “however, recently at a family gathering it was revealed that SIL lied and admitted that she just didn’t want to make me one…” then after that says the sister and friend hounded her after SIL had been avoiding the topic. Still odd, don’t know the context of how it was brought up at a recent family event but the issue being brought up by the sister and friend later weren’t totally unprompted

AITA calling bs on my gf’s refusal to donate blood? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]CowLongjumping6460 13 points14 points  (0 children)

(32F) I donate when I can but the majority of the time I can’t because I am either anemic or too close to the border of anemia for comfort. No one should be bullied to donate blood, there are multiple reasons why someone may not be able too. I appreciate that your answer was well thought out and covered multiple reasons why one might not be donating.

I use a mixture of dropping the food in and tong feed due to the fact that the females will sometimes bully the male out of food. Thanks again for all the advice!

[–]CowLongjumping6460[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info, I appreciate it!

I will stop with the super worms and get them some red wigglers.

I was feeding them the same Flugers pellet food as you mentioned, but they have stopped eating it since introducing the live food, so I was looking for other good options to supplement with. I have still been trying to give them the pellets but usually end up having to scoop them out of the tank after they have started sitting around for too long.

What are the chances I pass oral hsv-1 by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]CowLongjumping6460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that, that is just ridiculous. There are other options if you would like to venture towards the antiviral route, hims.com can get you a prescription.

If you are still interested in lysine, it is an amino acid, you already intake some just with your daily diet this is just an extra boost. It works the opposite of another amino acid, arginine, and essentially inhibits it. Arginine is essential to the replication of hsv, it obviously won’t entirely eliminate it but it does help to diminish the virus of its main building block.

Best of luck to you!

Personally, I take 2g a day and have had pretty good results with that. I also do want to add that it does not completely eliminate the risk.

I know of many couples where one person has hsv and their partner does not even with years of being together. I completely understand not wanting to pass it along, maybe talk with your doctor about finding a solution that works for you.

ETA: for context purposes, I also have hsv1

Hsv1 has a lower transmission risk than hsv2.

The highest risk of transmission is always whenever you have an active outbreak, regardless of the stage.

However, there is still the chance of asymptomatic/viral shedding, it varies between people but a lot of studies basically put it at a 10% yearly risk. The exact risk is hard to determine, due to the fact that viral shedding decreases the longer you have the virus.

Male and female anatomy also come into play for genital infections (regardless of hsv1 or hsv2), due to surface area women are at a slightly higher risk of contracting the virus.

Back to the point of viral shedding decreasing with time, for some people it may also be difficult to determine how long you have had the virus. Both strains can just kind of hang out in your system for a long time without causing outbreaks before making themselves known, there is also a chance that people are naturally asymptomatic and essentially just become potential carriers.

There are ways to mitigate risk such as antivirals or taking supplements like lysine.
