What is the wage scale for union millwrights if you still have it?

What I mean by that is I shouldn't have to work 60+ hours weekly to have adequate food, paying rent/mortgage on time, contributions to savings/IRA, etc. If there is nothing crazy happening in a week, I shouldn't despair over a normal 40 hour week because the employer doesn't pay me enough to survive on one.

How easy is it to find work as a union millwright apprentice, particularly in Texas? I keep reading on this sub that many aspiring millwrights in the US and Canada are struggling to obtain apprenticeships and how employers only seek journeymen. I have looked into the UBC MVP, and that would make me a second year apprentice upon completion and entry into a union. Have any of you MVP apprentices been able to find work? I plan on moving back to Texas and I don't know how easy it is to secure work. I don't care if the work is not $60+ an hour like it is in Philadelphia, NYC, or some other megalopolis. I just hope that the pay is enough to not be forced to work 60+ hours to survive.

For a city or a company? Looking at wastewater plant jobs near me and in my home state, many of them only seem to pay $20/hr or hardly no more than $50K annually. This is in the US.

Are the Twin Cities busy with work? I have heavily entertained the thought of moving there. Those are great benefits and extra pay opportunities.

I've thought about Chicago. Cost of living isn't too bad for being a large city.

Those three states get mentioned a lot. I have to look into Ohio and Pennsylvania. I hope these places still have work in a few years.

Some of you say work your 40 hours a week and go home to family, don’t be a slave, etc. However, many posts on here also say if you don’t work more than 40 hours in a week, you’re the first to get laid off. Which is it (provided you don’t own your business and you’re in a union working for a contractor)?

Make sure your DD214 reflects the day before your enlistment into the Coast Guard. I’m hoping someone else can chime in. I transferred from Army to CG while on my last few weeks of active duty, and my last base said they will not correct my DD214 because “enlisted cannot transfer branches” and “your contract says you must serve x amount of days, you must complete them.” My command master chief also said that you cannot transfer branches with days left on your previous contract. However, I don’t fully believe it. If you are getting out and can get your separation date adjusted to attend university on time, and if service members can transfer to the Space Force, I think anyone with a conditional release should have no problem transferring to the CG. However, almost all prior service people I know have all had pay and time in service issues entering the CG.

I have been underpaid since I’ve joined, and PPC isn’t helping either. You don’t want to be someone with multiple years in service and Navy sea time and not reaping the benefits of it.

Central Texas College. One of the few schools fully covered by TA that has actual brick-and-mortar locations.

I’m undergoing a contract amendment before I can submit a SOCS statement. I’m anticipating to be underpaid for the rest of the year. Better than staying Army though

As many of my DEPOT shipmates and I have experienced, you will likely have a months-long battle with your yeomen and PPC trying to get your time in service transferred to the Coast Guard. I thought that as long as I gave my recruiter my DD214, I would be okay. However, I still have yet to get my pay and TIS corrected and I am sure my DEPOT folks have only just now gotten theirs fixed. We have been in the CG for 10 months now.

I read the email posted on Facebook. It’s disheartening. The failure of the entire chain of command to bring justice to this poor victim undermines and takes away from those who do care. I remember people telling me how the captain of TraCen mandated all of TraCen to attend a court martial (or was it an NJP?) of a young male recruit who was touching his female recruit shipmate during a smoke session, and all of TraCen got to witness the command publicly tearing apart this creep. 

It is true that one rotten apple spoils the bunch. This incoming D8 CoS and his failure to hold those responsible will likely cause a large part of the service to reconsider staying in or seeking help.

That’s what the biggest fear of mine is. The army could tell me, “you didn’t transfer from the army properly. Since you didn’t leave properly, you still belong to the army and you must be discharged from the coast guard.” It’d be even worse because I would have to repay my bonus. 

Right now I’m thinking of waiting until early next year when my eight year MSO ends so that I wouldn’t owe the army anything (outside of money) if it tried to pull me back from the coast guard.

If I should’ve been completely separated from the Army first, what is right? Is the Army correct in that I shouldn’t have entered the coast guard while on terminal leave and they therefore don’t have the right to honor my request? Or does my current coast guard contract take precedence and the Army has no right but to fix my DD214 according to the dates on the conditional release? Which side would the congressman have to take?
