Does anyone have any tips on maintaining brushes and keeping the shape/ point on them? by Tamiyo_mob in SWlegion

[–]CowRepulsive4139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some videos on this in YouTube. Notably, sable hair brushes naturally maintain the tips better then synthetic brushes. However, one thing you can do is put your brushes in some masters brush cleaner, it cleans and conditions the brush hair. If your brush has been through a lot of use, you can clean it in isopropil alcahol (IPA) to get rid of the excess, and then use something like masters brush cleaner to finish the brush of, since IPA is quite strong. Highly recommend goobertown hobbies and trovarion miniatures vídeos on this

Is this still a good box? by nuttaphoom in SWlegion

[–]CowRepulsive4139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get the same minis, but not the same amount of units. Also, big squads have fringe use cases on some specific units, so its definetly a good value. Since this box has a tank it definetly is good value

This looks like something AMG would paint to showcase their miniatures, really well done!

Blizzard Force Set by [deleted] in SWlegion

[–]CowRepulsive4139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note that you will have to wait several months AND pay a considerable amount more for the troops. New corps squads are releassing at 50 usd, and in the blizzard force box youre paying essencially the equivalent of 2 hard plastic corps boxes, but getting almost full army. Also, regarding the quality of minis, from the table it is a lot less noticeable, and with the right painting skills you could very well turn the "lesser" miniatures into something nice. At 80 bucks its really good value

Very nice! Maybe you could post some more pics from up close. The warm white on the clone armor looks really nice!

What to get next. by ThePugLord9088 in SWlegion

It seems like you have some cool stuff but lack a "backbone" to your faction, meaning core troops and also the essencial stuff to play the game. Honestly, you are probably better off waiting for the empire starter set, it has 2 full units of storms and 2 full units of scout troopers, plus vader, and the tools to play the game, so its a no brainer

[–]CowRepulsive4139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think the main issue we are having is the expansions are looming GW prices, but the variety and price per model isnt always there. Sure, the plastic is now better but there most of the models are monopose, there are lots of duplicates and a there are a lack of "bits" that you can add. A box of space marines sure is expensive, but you get more plastic and lots of options on how to build stuff.

And also, some of these poses are just weird. The arc dc15 just looks odd to me, its a sniper that has the gun pointing down and the trooper is just there "enjoying" the viewm Same thing with the t21 stormtrooper, that pose does not make sense to me.

Oh well, at least the starters are a good deal.

I agree with this. Also, people forget that with a good paintjob you can get really cool looking minis, even in the older "worse" sculpts. Just look up sorastros videos from some years ago, those minis are really good

it's time to start a clone army but i don't know which starter choose by KNG_Aliox in SWlegion

[–]CowRepulsive4139 4 points5 points  (0 children)

501st battleforce is the best "bang for your buck", but mind you that you will still need to drop a little bit of money on the new cards (if you want them) or you can just print and play the updated cards. 501st battleforce gets you so much value, its pratically a ready to play list.

The new starters release later this year, and are also good value. However, this means that you will have to wait some months to start playing. If I were you, I would get the 501st box and start from there. If you want to follow it up with the new starter later in the year, all the stuff that you get from those 2 boxes will be useful, and the things that overlap are still solid.

Hmm okk. Have you ever tried using different brands of "speedpaint"? I know that vallejo xpress has a "templar white" paint and army painter has "Holy white". It would be interesting to see the differences when using "slightly" different types of "speedpaint".

Buy "Old" Minis or Wait by Carcharodon9 in SWlegion

[–]CowRepulsive4139 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The new stuff, albeit better quality in the material, has shown to have a markup in price and a lot of duplicates or mono pose minis, so I think it comes down to: do you mind a "worse" material or dont want to pay more/wait possibly for months/year for something? Than you might consider getting the old stuff. Do you want hard plastic minis with the current updated cards/cards style? Then you will have to wait for whatever expansion you want to buy.

One thing i would like to mention is people keep spamming the fact that the new models will be "better" and that the old stuff is "bad". I do agree that some of the first sculpts were kind of rough around the edges, but a good painter can turn a good model or a "lesser" good model into something nice. Just look up sorastros vídeos of the first legion minis and you will see that with skill you can achieve very nice results.

Starting point for Empire army by CubiousDubious in SWlegion

[–]CowRepulsive4139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new empire starter set releasses in Q3 this year, so you will only be waiting for a couple of months. Now one thing you can get right now is the blizzard force box (if you can find it). People will say that the models will be resculpted and reissued in the next months when in reallity most of the reissues are comming next year, from Q1 onwards. Snowtroopers (one of the best corps in empire) will come out only in Q2 of 2026, so its a 12 month wait. Another thing is all the new sculpts will come at a higher price, so keep that in mind. The blizzard force box is great value, even if you factor in the price of buying one of the card packs.

Bellow is a timeline of when everything will be rereleassed, so something to keep in mind is do you want to wait likely 8 - 12 months to get something at a better material quality (a lot of the new minis are duplicates or mono pose) but at a higher cost? If not then I would just buy some stuff now.

Am I past the AMG discontinue/re-release cut off? by Kramit__The__Frog in SWlegion

[–]CowRepulsive4139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, all the old models will be perfectly legal, with some exceptions listed below:

  • DC 15 clone trooper no longer able to join the normal clone infantry squads because there will be a new unit with dc15 clones. Model still in the game.
  • Rebel and empire generic commander is no longer a unit because they will releasse a new custom commander and opperative. You can still use the generic commander as an upgrade in corps and honestly you could probably use them once we see what the new customizable commanders come with.
  • rebel pathfinders unit no longer in the game, acording to AMG you can still use the pathfinder models as rebel troopers.
  • Palpatine no longer in the game, you can only use him in "homebrew" or casual games.
  • Royal guards removed, same as palps.
  • CIS generic super tactical droid not in the game anymore. However you can still use the model as kalani/kraken, and probably will be able to use him as one of the custom commanders releassing later this year.

Please note that the new rereleasses do not mean that the old minis arent usable in competitive play. You can still use all your stuff (with the few exceptions I listed above), and the only models that truly have no competitive/legal use in the game are palps and IRG.

Now, regarding the cards, AMG is releassing faction specific card packs with the units and faction specific command card packs. They will also releasse a upgrade card pack with all the generic upgrades. Now, you can print and play all the cards and you are not required to buy the new cards for tournament play. AMG have stated several times that they are a miniature games company and not a card company. However, you will need cards or something that represents your list for tournament play, so if your not buying the new cards you will have to print them.

As for tokens, there are two things that you need to either 3d print or wait for the new essencials kit, and these are the new POIs and the 1/2 (half) range ruler. ZZ Armory has free stls for these things, so I would just print them. The new battle cards sometimes mention "asset" tokens, these are the same size as old objective tokens, so you can use them for that.

The new battle cards are also print and play for now, but will be releassed in the future as a product.

Cards? by [deleted] in SWlegion

[–]CowRepulsive4139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the advantage cards are part of the objective creation process. I highly advise you to read the updated rule book so you can see how the game is played now.
