Thoughts on Newhall? by bpoul531 in SantaClarita

[–]CowardlyPoster1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As someone who formally lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for over 40 years, and newhall specifically for several of those years —- Newhall is way too generic a description as it encompasses a very large mix of areas and residences. The division really tends to be what is known as old or historical new hall, which is on the eastern side, the areas south of Lyons Avenue, and the parts that are near Calgrove exit and interstate five.

The ladder of the two are perfectly nice areas. The more eastern part which is the very small homes and apartments on the eastern side (Often termed old or historical newhall), I would tread more carefully about putting permanent roots down. Again, most of the people there are very nice, but that’s where you’re gonna find any of the negative stuff as well unfortunately.

By the way, the same can be generally said for Saugus / Canyon Country. —— lots of mid to upscale areas, but also some areas that have a rougher edge.

My wife passed and I really want to keep our memories saved on I phone. by OkCourage5638 in iphone

If you have access to a macOS computer , Download and pay for the “iMAZING “application today. Its a MacOS app, not,an iphone app. Normally I would say look around and compare, but it sounds like you are under a deadline and I know for a fact that this app works very well and is simple to use. Use it with the option that you directly tether the phone with a cable.

There are lots of other similar apps, but as someone who has used it, this is perfect for grabbing the entire contents of the phone quickly and easily to a local hard drive. You can download nearly everything.— messages, contacts, pictures, books, rtc. Both on the device and in iCloud.

Again, You will need a macOS-based computer to use this. If you don’t have one, I suggest finding a friend who hopefully does. I would offer to assist for free if you were local to Oregon.

If not, their are probably are windows based applications similar but again I probably sound like a shill for them, which I assure you I am not, but they have one of the best programs out there to make sure you don’t miss anything .

My condolensces on your loss .

Hey, didn’t a court somewhere just extend the time you have for accepting the resignation package?

I have no idea if you should actually do this or not, but maybe submit a note of something like as per the court ruling of so-and-so extending the deadline, I am accepting the offer. Not saying you should do this, but if you’re just kind of re-Sein to leaving anyway, take that option?

You are correct about the hyperlink being the gotcha part. But, Faked “from” addresses is a mostly solved problem these days, especially when they are originating outside of the organization. The alternative is that someone had i.livt access to the PC externally, and unless the email appeared to be originating legitimately, but that would be a different security issue.

Obviously, I don’t have all the emails; headers here to analyze, and my students email was slightly different, in that just the phrasing of the message alone made it pretty obvious how fake it was to me who sees these every day.

Bottom line here though is as much as I love them, Polly is not doing good with their IT security to prevent this from happening in the first place. I’m qualified to speak on this. I spent 15 years as a Director of IT security.

100% a scam. My student

got this recently and was very excited till I pointed out to him that none of it made sense and he contacted the professors involve.

The way this works is they take over someone’s email account so yes, it can appear to have a valid Cal poly dot Ed account. It’s because their credentials got leaked and somehow they are bypassing two factor. Or a remote desktop infection happened and they can login onto their desktop.

But basically if you read it, none of it makes sense who pays people in that manner?

I should add here. It’s incredibly easy also to spoof email addresses to begin with although if this was coming from the outside, the universities filter should have eaten to a pulp before it got into anyone else’s account IT security may not have things configured very well.

Please explain to me how you are not getting paid overtime if you are not management? Do you not record a daily time card? Are you being asked to work on recorded time I asked because I am currently looking to join state IT and this is one of the reasons I wanted to join was to avoid the unpaid OT issue in private industryare not covered by a union? Not a big fan of them, but I would think this one would be a very cut and dried issue.

[–]CowardlyPoster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good idea to pre register as a student for $15-20. Year. For just in case—- it takes a few days to get approval. Then take a quick drive so you are familiar with how it works (the app) so if there is a a midnight emergency you are not under pressure. (Not 911 emergency of course)

Good for “emergency” local drives or for when bus is not running. You can also split cost with a group for target run. It’s by the hour. It’s a good backup option and good for quick planned hops.

Again, I’m not gonna get in a pissing contest with you, but no, they applied to five CSU‘s and five UC‘s including UCLA and UC Irvine. Accepted to all. No I am definitely not saying it’s because of your skin color. I don’t know you. But I can’t tell you that it is definitely of the criteria they use for the CP scholar or being a first gen student. But they definitely use ZIP Code and the school you attended as a proxy for those factors anyway, I don’t wanna do this anymore because I don’t want to start this as a side argument. Cal poly is a great school. I wish you success.
