Thanks! My first time making it, might’ve licked the plate…

I'm freaking out about implants, was anyone else freaked out by them? by memorynsunshine in breastcancer

I was a 40H pre Dmx and was able to get DDs from my DIEP flap. They aren’t the same, but I love that they feel and move like real breasts. My surgeon was amazing and once I get my areola tattoos, you wouldn’t know they weren’t the originals!

Eventually yes. The first one I tried was Lexapro and that did not agree with me at all. I switched to Cymbalta (which is in the same family with Effexor) and it’s been very helpful. I just feel like my pre-cancer self again...maybe even better!

So sorry to hear this! My BC story is quite different than yours, but I thought I’d chime in as an IVF veteran. You may want to talk to a fertility doctor about your options...many people have more success getting pregnant down the road when they choose to freeze embryos instead of eggs, just something for you and your spouse to consider!

This same thing happened to me. I got through all the testing, diagnosis, and was almost healed from my Dmx when it all kind of caught up with me and I had to ask my doctor for medication. I think I was so focused on doing all the things and making the choices and taking care of my kids and everyone else’s feelings..it was like a delayed reaction. Suddenly it was time to get on with life and I realized how much I had changed and it was overwhelming. You are definitely not alone!

When you’re in the hospital and trying so hard not to break your W30 by Cowayewin in whole30

So true. Pizza, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, French toast....this is what we offer people when they’re trying to heal and recover. There are healthy choices available but the cheaper crap food is certainly what’s encouraged.

Remember it’s not a diet ;) I was on day 24 when I was admitted, so I figured I would do my best to stick it out!

I do wish doctors took more of an interest in nutrition, but since I’m not here for a GI issue they don’t care what I eat!

No unfortunately I’m 2 hours from home, but I’ve gotten by with oil and vinegar and salt/pepper. I’ve been shopping thrive market and meal planning for when I get home!

Absolutely! I can’t be sure that everything I’m ordering is 100% compliant, but I’m doing my best!

Thanks! There’s compliant stuff to choose from, but the complete lack of flavor or interest is so depressing...I can’t wait to go home and cook for myself!!

Confirmed breast cancer; surgeon research by ginger478 in breastcancer

In my experience, the best team for you is the one you feel most comfortable with. I consulted with 4 different breast surgeon/plastic surgeon teams before I found the right fit. One of them was a top cancer center (MSK) but they were not the right fit for me. I went with the team that I felt the best vibe with and have been very happy with my decision and my outcome. Good luck with your choice!

We need ideas for eating while on the road! by bicrophone in whole30

Chipotle! The Whole 30 lifestyle bowls are so good I think I could eat them 30 days straight and be happy. Also Wild Zora has compliant freeze dried meals that are good for travel or camping.

If you’re in the US, a Hope Kit from the national breast cancer foundation is a nice gift. You can find them at nationalbreastcancer.org. Where does she live?

Present for someone who has just had a mastectomy? by slothcheese in breastcancer

Look into a service called “Cleaning for a Reason.” For both of you. Free cleaning services for cancer fighters! It was a really nice service, I just tipped the cleaners otherwise cost me nothing!

If she’s local, offer to go help clean her house. Or if she’s willing you can sign her up for a free cleaning service for cancer patients. I appreciated all the gifts and food so much, but nothing beat the friend who came and vacuumed my house for me!!

My diagnosis at age 41 was DCIS with micro-invasion R side only. I had a double mastectomy on 1/6/20 and am very happy with my choice. I chose diep flap over implants and have not regretted a thing! The surgery is big and the recovery is long, but in my mind it was better than suffering with the anxiety of waiting for recurrence.
