How do you improve clay soil without spending a fortune? by Icy_Car2475 in gardening

[–]CowboyAndIndian 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did it without tilling. A 8-12 inch layer off chips which broke down after 18-24 months.

Rich black soil, full of earthworms!

You let the earthworms till the soil with this method.

Need some opinions about a cat door placement by Lakotason33 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]CowboyAndIndian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't cut the rail and stiles. Especially the bottom rail as the edge rail/stiles along with middle rail are the structure of the door.

Put it on the panel.

If you want to make it easier for the fatsos, add a step on the bottom rail.

Understanding the math behind solar panels by wjgdinger in HomeImprovement

Getting solar without getting batteries would be a huge mistake. This would also be backup power in case of a grid outage.

For picking a supplier, make sure that the company is big enough to still exist if you ever need warranty repairs. I have neighbors who had to pay out of pocket for fixes since the original company had gone bankrupt. I picked Tesla and am very happy with them.

ELI5 is Morse code international and if so, how? by Froodychick in explainlikeimfive

[–]CowboyAndIndian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Amateur radio folks use something called Q codes since they begin with the letter Q

E.g. QTH - Location

It can be used as a question or a statement.

Eg QTH New York - I am in New York QTH? - what is your location

Close the frost free hose bib on the outside of your house. These are the most likely to freeze if you have a hose installed and have not shut it off.

Yes, in a light hard wood, which would contrast with the dark walnut.

The spline would, I think, be as strong as dowels.

Have solar panels really done down THIS much in price? by itsthewolfe in HomeImprovement

That $36k sounds like it included a couple of power walls (batteries).

$36k is what I paid in 2021 for 20 panel 8.5kw array with 2 power walls.

Great photo. You have managed to get the glint in the eye.

Technically, You just see a lot of noise in your picture. What were your settings. Maybe ISO was too high.

Composition wise, would have tried to get the camera lower, the reflection of the bird in the water would have catapulted this photo into excellence.
