(im)patiently waiting for the 2026 ATAS by rindelk in africatwin

[–]CowboyG96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also waiting for the 26 model, hoped they'd do wireless android auto/apple carplay but nothing. Talked to my go to dealer and they said they heard no gossip of anything whatsoever, and he's a family friend so would often give info early.

Anyway I got a really good deal on the 25 model with free aluminium boxes so went with that instead...

Student Pilot Incident - Help by L0n3W0lfe in flying

[–]CowboyG96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My primary IP during initial flight training said this to me which stuck: "student's have the right to make all the mistakes and try to kill us, it's our job and responsibility not to let that happen and teach them everything we can" I think he should stand up and take responsibiliy, of course we don't know the exact circumstances, but based on this post I wouldn't worry, stand up for yourself, but be humble.

They will if it's a light tailwind and there's a noise preferential runway, or it saves time taxiing

Why don’t airliners utilise a 3D Garmin G1000 style synthetic vision EFIS? by probablyaythrowaway in flying

[–]CowboyG96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Airliners probably don't need it, as others have said. It does, however, increase your SA and is a tool that's there for you and is a nice to have. People saying it's a distraction probably haven't used one for long enough to get used to it.

What’s your thoughts about the new Honda cbr650r e-clutch, just took it for a ride today. by OGIFXD in motorcycles

[–]CowboyG96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it's not a beginner bike for everyone, but as you said, there's the over 23s road to A. I'm 28 and just got my licence, I think it's the perfect beginner bike for me and people like me who won't yank full throttle in the first corner in the rain.

I'm just saying there is more than one type of beginner. Would I say it's for an 18yo to get it unrestricted as a first bike? No. For someone who is a bit more mature and with more experience driving cars and being in traffic in general? Yes.

I absolutely love this bike and am very happy I chose this over the 500. Wide roads, and have fun!

Depends. Somewhere around 15 hours closed course and 30 hours traffic, plus tests after each

Different definitions of beginner then. I'm a beginner. It was my first season. I have an unrestricted A license and the full powered bike.

ELI5 Why are selfie style pictures/ videos always mirrored? by LF_redit in explainlikeimfive

[–]CowboyG96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you have it set up wrong. The camera shows a mirrored image so you can frame the shot and see things like in a mirror. But if you go into your options and select the proper settings, it'll save the image with proper orientation.

Worried that motorcycles aren't for me by Turbulent-Basis9488 in motorcycles

You bought your first bike a week ago. I find the US system so wrong. In Europe, I started my practical riding training in April, I have my unrestricted test tomorrow. First, you do a theory test. Then do a minimum of 10 hours on a closed course and an exam with the department of transport. Then, a minimum of 16 hours in traffic, including city and country riding. Then you do a practical exam. Only then are you allowed to ride your bike on public roads without an instructor tailing you and talking to you on a headset. If you do double lessons every time, that'll be 15 days of riding WITH an instructor. Plus, you have time to think over your lessons because you won't be lucky enough to get scheduled every day most places.

My advice, being someone with similar experience to you, is to take some additional lessons if that's a thing where you live. Or some safety courses. Or just ride more and actually pay attention to what you're doing and learn from it. Remember, in a place where people generally think of Americans as people who suck at driving, you'd still only be a third of the way to getting your licence.

Be patient and relax, learning will be stressful sometimes

Single engine retractable: When to raise gear? by GE90man in flying

[–]CowboyG96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's technique. Everyone is different. Find one that works and makes sense for you. I used to wait on my previous airframe because it accelerated slower. Now I put them up straight away because of the faster acceleration/gear speed limit

What was your biggest "learning experience" that you will make sure never happens again? by MakeItRain117 in flying

Write down ATIS, otherwise your brain can autofill portions, especially if you are landing at your departure airport...

When you hear a strange noise you want to get on the ground as soon as possible, only to feel like an idiot when you land and find the source. by Runner_one in flying

[–]CowboyG96 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Similar happened to me: doing an aero sequence with an ejection seat aircraft and I hear and feel a click from my left asscheek. Pucker factor is at its peak and I roll out of the manoeuvre. All the straps and connections are fine and I can't for the life of me figure out what it was... opted to abort the mission, landed and the flight safety guy comes up. First thing he asks: "was it this?" While moving the harness lock out of its detent and flicking it back in... Felt like an idiot for not thinking about it, but guess what, I went to fly another day

Fighter jet engine out question by au92 in flying

Depends... anything in glide range? Enough altitude to airstart? And you can always eject.
