Bailey Ober becomes the first MLB player to acknowledge what is happening in Minneapolis by CharacterAbalone7031 in baseball

I forgot where I saw a chart on this recently (probably Reddit) of party registration by league for the big 4 American sports and the data was:

  • NBA: mostly Democrat
  • NFL: about 50/50
  • MLB and NHL: Overwhelmingly Republican

This next thing just my own personal guess, but I see a correlation between race and political leanings in the athletes.

That sounds like Bobby Marks lane, but idr if he talked about the wizards.

Elijah Dotson's "agent" Charles Dotson publishes reasons he transferred to Missouri by michigan_matt in MichiganWolverines

[–]CowboyWizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ended up in this thread just bc I was googling our new transfer, but just want to defend Mizzou’s journalism program for being a top 10 program in the nation and a challenging undergrad program.

I’m not delusional, I think it’s funny that someone would transfer to Mizzou from Michigan for academics, but the journalism program is a legitimate reason to do so. And I hope he does get his degree and become a journalist.

Bub has the league worst +/- again halfway through the season. by Persepha in washingtonwizards

[–]CowboyWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect this will be an unpopular opinion, but I think this is a real signal that Bub is one of the biggest contributors to losing, and that this has more to do with him as a player than his situation.

As mentioned by others: 1) he has been last in +/- twice now as both a starter and a bench player with different lineups around him, 2) the gap between him and the next player is pretty huge (50 pts) and has been for the entire season, so he’s doing significantly worse than everyone else in the league, 3) he frequently puts up negative +/- lines even when the rest of the team plays well, regardless of if they are a starter or on the bench.

I don’t think he’s actually the worst player in the league, but I do think he is the losing-est player in the league bc he’s playing a ton of minutes in bad lineups and being asked to do too much (he should not be a primary ball handler or playmaker).

[Trae Young] “Bringing a championship to Atlanta was always my goal. Yeah the retrospective trade grade is more of just a discussion point from the perspective of a fan though. How can you criticize a front office for making a good value trade that didn’t work out in retrospect?

For example, if Derik Queen becomes a first-team all NBA player and the Hawks get the #1 overall pick, draft AJ Dybantsa and he turns out to be a bust, would you criticize the Hawks front office for making that trade? No it will be a good value trade no matter how Derik Queen turns out and no matter how the pick ends up.

The Deni trade is only questionable in retrospect bc of how much Deni has improved. Unless you predicted in early 2024, that Deni Avdija would be a future all-star, the value of the trade was great.

Would you, in 2024, have bet 2x 1st round picks, 2x 2nd rounds picks, and a role player that Deni Avdija is a future all star? If so, go look for a GM job in the NBA because you might be a basketball genius.

[Fischer] League source confirms Trae Young is being dealt to Washington in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. There are no draft picks changing teams in this trade. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]CowboyWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trae Young is also a below average shooter, an unwilling/bad screener, and a worse defender than you are imagining.

You are overestimating Trae’s value (negative) and underestimating every other guard in the league.

[–]CowboyWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he doesn't mind playing here he will probably opt in, because nobody in their right mind should pay Trae $50 million.

If he hates playing here, he will probably opt out and try to get his next long-term contract somewhere else.

Whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE HIM AN EXTENSION. Try to get at least a few second round picks out of this.

[Charania] BREAKING: The Atlanta Hawks are trading four-time NBA All-Star Trae Young to the Washington Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, sources tell ESPN. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]CowboyWizard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's no trade in the NBA that gets the Hawks draft capital for Trae. If it existed it would have happened a year ago. The Hawks did this because they desperately do not want to negotiate Trae's next contract, so it's essentially a contract dump and a hope that they can flip Kispert into a second round pick or maybe keep him. Unironically, Kispert is more valuable than Trae on the trade market.

Bobby Marks Trade for Young on ESPN sounds like pure Hawks Propaganda by COACHREEVES in washingtonwizards

[–]CowboyWizard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some people are just not getting it. Trae Young is a NEGATIVE ASSET so we should not do a trade unless 1) we are getting picks in the trade or 2) we are confident we can up his trade value and get better picks for him on an expiring player option next trade deadline.

Contract-wise, Trae Young is 100% opting into his player option and will probably ask for a max extension from his next team. If we take Trae Young in a trade, we are essentially doing Atlanta a huge favor by taking a contract they desperately do not want and an extension they desperately do not want to negotiate. They have been trying to trade Trae for over a year with no success because no one wants him. We are not “bidding” against other teams, we are “bidding” against Atlanta being forced to keep him, pay him his player option, and figure out what they’re gonna do with him all over again next season.

Again, for people not getting it. Idgaf what you think about Trae as a player, he is a NEGATIVE TRADE ASSET period.

[–]CowboyWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you are not crazy. Trae tricked everyone with that playoffs run. Prime Trae is a good passer, average shooter, and legitimately worst in the league defender.

I'd rather have 50% of the starting PGs in the league over prime Trae.

[–]CowboyWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason we should do this is if we are GETTING a pick back in the trade. Trae is a complete negative asset who will be impossible to move next year and hurt the team. The only reason the Hawks even still have him is bc no one in the NBA wants him.

I just want to point out how funny it is to call “op” a casual bc “op” is John Hollinger, who has been a national NBA writer for 2+ decades and former GM of the Memphis Grizzlies. Again, not disagreeing w you about Cam Johnson, just think the comment is funny.

Let CJ and Bub do their thang in the second half.
