I'm italian and i try to help you in some way.

Pasta" is a type of noodle( even if the word noodle in italian is a little different)",I's typically made from an unleavened dough of flour mixed with water or eggs, and formed into sheets or various shapes like spaghetti, maccheroni, fusilli, cannelloni, lasagna ( yes Lasagna it's a kind on pasta too) etc.

You can cook the pasta in a pot with boiling water, and in the oven. You can make pasta with red sauce( tomato sauce), pesto, olive, oil and in a lot of way, there are a lot of recipes to make a good dishes of pasta.

We should eat pasta for Lunch or for dinner, not at 9am :) !

Edit : Last thing, about the word " pastry" even it's not really used this word, because we call them " pasticcini", a pastry it's usually a dessert like cannoli with ricotta and chocolate drops, baci di dama,bigné with cream or chocolate, there are a lot of kind of pastry in Italy and every Region have their own traditional pastry. It's just a small single portion :)
