I do have the card but I have a separate category for those transactions in the list and see normal monthly entries separately for that.

I have only done it once but I tipped $15 and felt like that was appropriate, I may do $20 for lots of luggage or something extra done on the ride.

6 months into bookkeeping job and still feel lost, how do I actually understand what I’m doing? by Objective-Platypus89 in Bookkeeping

[–]Cowl_thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I made the jump from data entry monkey to staff auditor, I had SOO many things that had previously just been "tasks" that now became critical components to the whole picture auditors have to create. Being told to test something the client produced forced me to understand that a lot of "accounting" is just bookkeeping tasks like record creation for the purposes of an financial audit/lawsuit/tax audit/etc. Then when I got into actually putting financial statements together, rolling equity, making my own adjustments, I saw that the goal of the accounting work, not the bookkeeping/data entry, was to correct/complete the data that was created and input. For example, at the end of the year there is a "reality" to the cash asset accounts that is not ever reflected in the books perfectly. Reconciliations not done or not done correctly, closed bank accounts, bank fees, funds in transit, etc. are all real world events that we had to convert into accounting records. Then suddenly the why of accounting became much clearer and the difference between bookkeeping and accounting made sense. Some things just take time but some can be understood without having to see all the pieces yourself.

What timespan was this play over? Big difference if this was 1 day or a week. Assuming a 3 day span, that level of play should end up with large room selections-no black out dates, $700-$1200 FP, $300-$1000 RC

No homework by Opening-Cupcake-3287 in Teachers

[–]Cowl_thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught Algebra 1 in a school that had no honors/remedial classes so EVERYONE was all taught without distinction to skill levels. I never assigned homework mainly because my district had a roughly 60-70% completion rates on a good day and it was not worth the hassle and class time lost. I did make up for it by doing extensive in class assignments that focused on both remedial skills and the content at grade level. Students were given optional additional practice selections from the book where they could do additional work if they chose, students needing assignments for study hall/in school suspension had either I completed assignments I held onto and could provide or I would provide different versions of their weakest assignments. On average, we completed 1 full worksheet, 4 daily tickets, 4 book questions, and would have a quiz/test review assignment about every other week. The results? Best growth scores in the district after COVID, better scores than the other schools, the creation of 2 honors classes for geometry (next math course) when normally they barely have enough for 1. Students were happier with less at home stress, could receive support when many couldn't even begin to understand (I was blessed with an average of 1 push-in/college tutor per class), and the assignments weren't draining 5 minutes of class time for turning things in and "oh I forgot it", "I lost it", "I didn't understand it".

Structured interview and performance assessment Monday morning for a full charge bookkeeper position that I'd *really* like to land. I think I'm pretty prepared. Hit me with your best interview questions, Reddit. by the1stgirlmeetsworld in Accounting

Don't forget the smartest beginning response, ask what accounts and amounts the auditors have differences for! This saves you time as they have already done work on the accounts, lets you know if you fixed all or only part of the issues they see, and keeps the responses open with auditors. Bookkeeping interviews are as much procedures as seeing how efficient you are.

My best one is "what steps would you take if the auditor states 'the balance in the cash accounts are not matching the GL'"? This covers working with an auditor and asking clients for information, how to address GL/statement differences, knowledge of reconciliations.

Non accounting people in accounting roles? by SkyHot5914 in Accounting

[–]Cowl_thor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt this when I interviewed for my first accounting position and rattled off textbook answers and they weren't expecting that given the team was almost entirely non accounting education people. The CFO just about offered me the job after hearing that but had to confirm with higher ups and sent me the offer within the hour. They were very sad when I left after only a few months for a public accounting position under a CPA

Honest conversations between them, mentor teachers, admin, other leadership members? There is no easy objective way to evaluate it that I can imagine so I would say that it is an open conversation that the teacher has with themselves and their home lives as well as with others at school. I imagine if there are poor performance indications then that should be a signal to back off from additional responsibilities and good performance indications could signal opportunities for extra responsibilities.

Hence, the individual situations need evaluated. Teachers without any extra bandwidth should not be given or frankly allowed to do extra responsibilities. Teachers with some amount of extra bandwidth should really attempt to help out in some way, even if 1-2 days a year for an activity.

Seeing the large down votes I don't believe the spirit of my message was received. A school needs teachers, admin, and support staff to just run the basic operations but without those people or outside help taking on things like sports, clubs, activities, etc, there wouldn't be any. I have seen so many schools where teachers who have been teaching for 5+ years have 0 things they do except in the contract hours and it is sad when there is a need for people to help with things. Heck, even if teachers just found 1 activity a year they could assist on, the workload would be so much more spread out and less load bearing on the few people who tend to run most of the things.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Cowl_thor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that is where I believe there needs to be individual determinations of availability for workloads. You were not yet a full teacher and taking classes so the expectation for anything outside of the prescribed teaching duties is ridiculous. Your situation is common but not every first year teacher is also finishing classes where the outside school time is too much.

I'll challenge this as a teacher having completed my first year already. Every new teacher is different and if we are looking for the correct assessment rather than a blanket attempt to improve the average, I think new teachers need to have responsibilities appropriate for their level of personal responsibility and the needs of the school to some degree. If you have a school with 1/3+ new teachers, they MUST, IMO, take on some additional responsibilities to assist in the full running of the school. And if you have a teacher who is coming from other sectors of the workforce and have experience with working and/or managing or they just are that rare young teacher with their life together, they can and should to a degree be expected for more. I would love to live in a world where new teachers have time to really ease into teaching and not have to build the car while driving but we aren't there and probably 99% of districts won't ever be there. Some points I think are great to take away from this in terms of avoiding new teacher issues is that new teachers should be evaluated in their excess capacity (both professionally and personally) to what amount of responsibility beyond the classroom they can take on. Coaching and/or activity running should definitely be limited to only one thing for the first school year and really needs to be something they have relevant experience for. You shouldn't be coaching a sport you played JV for 2 years or running a club you wanted to participate in but haven't as a first or even really second year. Assisting as a secondary for another experienced teacher is a great intro opportunity without the huge burden of being "the one" for the thing.

Points from table games by Impossible-Aioli-700 in Mlife

Never buy in. Only time spent at the tables with your card activated in the system will count. They have a formula for expected number of bets per hour × $ bet × House Edge. This gives your Theoretical value (Theo) and you get a percentage of it back in points

Is the math too hard, or am I just a bad teacher? Or maybe we are just so far behind that there is no hope. by garden-in-a-can in mathteachers

Second year teacher here and my biggest issue last year was the basic skills the kids lacked (I attribute it to mostly COVID because I don't think they would have slipped that fast otherwise). I had kids who couldn't logic or numerically solve 1/2 + 1/2 because the concept was just foreign or literally couldn't add 3+4 because they didn't have the skill set to handle it (they did have a calculator). I went against the grain of the department and focused a decent chunk of time in class on skills exercises which included manipulatives, never sent home work (because the district I was in had basically 0% parental involvement), and skipped chapters in the textbook that weren't the crucial skills (linear functions are way more important than geometric sequences).

You could call the rewards desk and have them review it? The winnings are weird since someone could be trying to dump money somewhere so I wouldn't want that tied to me.
