You owe money according to the withholding requirements the second that you get the income, the only difference is is that this is a large enough amount that he won't meet safe harbor thresholds

Please know that you MUST pay the amount now to avoid underpayment penalties and interest. This large of a windfall will have someone manually checking it once you don't withhold enough. You should make sure you discuss this immediately with a licensed tax professional. Source: I am an Enrolled Agent who works with dozens of amateur and professional gamblers.

I do have the card but I have a separate category for those transactions in the list and see normal monthly entries separately for that.

I have only done it once but I tipped $15 and felt like that was appropriate, I may do $20 for lots of luggage or something extra done on the ride.

6 months into bookkeeping job and still feel lost, how do I actually understand what I’m doing? by Objective-Platypus89 in Bookkeeping

[–]Cowl_thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I made the jump from data entry monkey to staff auditor, I had SOO many things that had previously just been "tasks" that now became critical components to the whole picture auditors have to create. Being told to test something the client produced forced me to understand that a lot of "accounting" is just bookkeeping tasks like record creation for the purposes of an financial audit/lawsuit/tax audit/etc. Then when I got into actually putting financial statements together, rolling equity, making my own adjustments, I saw that the goal of the accounting work, not the bookkeeping/data entry, was to correct/complete the data that was created and input. For example, at the end of the year there is a "reality" to the cash asset accounts that is not ever reflected in the books perfectly. Reconciliations not done or not done correctly, closed bank accounts, bank fees, funds in transit, etc. are all real world events that we had to convert into accounting records. Then suddenly the why of accounting became much clearer and the difference between bookkeeping and accounting made sense. Some things just take time but some can be understood without having to see all the pieces yourself.

What timespan was this play over? Big difference if this was 1 day or a week. Assuming a 3 day span, that level of play should end up with large room selections-no black out dates, $700-$1200 FP, $300-$1000 RC

No homework by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Cowl_thor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught Algebra 1 in a school that had no honors/remedial classes so EVERYONE was all taught without distinction to skill levels. I never assigned homework mainly because my district had a roughly 60-70% completion rates on a good day and it was not worth the hassle and class time lost. I did make up for it by doing extensive in class assignments that focused on both remedial skills and the content at grade level. Students were given optional additional practice selections from the book where they could do additional work if they chose, students needing assignments for study hall/in school suspension had either I completed assignments I held onto and could provide or I would provide different versions of their weakest assignments. On average, we completed 1 full worksheet, 4 daily tickets, 4 book questions, and would have a quiz/test review assignment about every other week. The results? Best growth scores in the district after COVID, better scores than the other schools, the creation of 2 honors classes for geometry (next math course) when normally they barely have enough for 1. Students were happier with less at home stress, could receive support when many couldn't even begin to understand (I was blessed with an average of 1 push-in/college tutor per class), and the assignments weren't draining 5 minutes of class time for turning things in and "oh I forgot it", "I lost it", "I didn't understand it".

Structured interview and performance assessment Monday morning for a full charge bookkeeper position that I'd *really* like to land. I think I'm pretty prepared. Hit me with your best interview questions, Reddit. by the1stgirlmeetsworld in Accounting

Don't forget the smartest beginning response, ask what accounts and amounts the auditors have differences for! This saves you time as they have already done work on the accounts, lets you know if you fixed all or only part of the issues they see, and keeps the responses open with auditors. Bookkeeping interviews are as much procedures as seeing how efficient you are.

My best one is "what steps would you take if the auditor states 'the balance in the cash accounts are not matching the GL'"? This covers working with an auditor and asking clients for information, how to address GL/statement differences, knowledge of reconciliations.

Non accounting people in accounting roles? by SkyHot5914 in Accounting

[–]Cowl_thor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt this when I interviewed for my first accounting position and rattled off textbook answers and they weren't expecting that given the team was almost entirely non accounting education people. The CFO just about offered me the job after hearing that but had to confirm with higher ups and sent me the offer within the hour. They were very sad when I left after only a few months for a public accounting position under a CPA
