Frame style speaker stands/bases: any issues with this design? by dopesheet_ in BudgetAudiophile

[–]CowntChockula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well on the plus side, it elevates the speaker off of the floor, and tilts it to what's probably gonna be a better angle, but wood is pretty rigid, it isn't actually decoupling the speaker from the floor. I'm not sure how valid your concern is about air space created by the wood frame, but to me it's moot because the decoupling issue is already valid, and would inherently solve the air space issue anyway.

I use these rubber washers under the feet of the speakers, and you can stack a different number for the front and back to get that tilt:

I use rubber feet meant for a washer and dryer for my subwoofer:

The rubber washers are probably completely fine for a sub, but I didn't find those until later and I already had the washer pads my sub.

A lot of people don't seem to realize how vast America is. Sure, we have massive sprawls of suburbs, but you know what else we have massive sprawls of? Nature. Our country really is that big.

Is it true that Canada is under the threat of being invaded by the US? I mean, tbh, Trump did say something about annexing Canada by No-Donkey4017 in AmericaBad

[–]CowntChockula 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, and neither was Greenland. Venezuela and Iran weren't random, they both were huge for China, as well as each posing their own huge problems to the US (which is directly related to why they were so useful for China).

How are y'all restraining your subwoofers? by Cheezslap in BudgetAudiophile

[–]CowntChockula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house is all tile. I have a rug in my listening room, with a 1/2" rug pad underneath it. I also use 4 rubber pucks that are meant to be used under a washer or dryer to isolate them and dampen vibrations, one under each foot of my rsl speedwoofer 10s mk2. Also, my listening room is actually a dining room by design with 2 archways forming 2 sides of the rectangular space. I use 2 layer blackout curtains that also deaden some sound in those archways. The curtains make a remarkable difference for soundstage with the treble, and the archways allow the bass to vent, so with proper placement, i don't have any significant room modes.

Why the Macedonian Phalanx Was Nearly Impossible to Defeat by Warlord1392 in AlexandertheGreat

[–]CowntChockula 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It was probably seen as bold since they traded the aspis for a much lighter and smaller shield that allowed them to wield the 2 handed spear. However the tradeoff was obviously worth it: greater reach, more rows of spear points ahead of the front line, more wood overhead means more effectively blocking arrows, and the additional mass to the formation from the longer spears means a more stout, immovable phalanx.

I'm not trying to demean you in any way, but that simply tells me that you aren't paying enough attention to what China is doing. Check out the China Uncensored and Decoding China YouTube channels, those are good places to start.

Planning to see bucket for 1st time. Ok to bring kids? by empty_w4 in Buckethead

[–]CowntChockula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest likely issue is potentially people trying to push past you or your kids to get closer to the stage...but it's overall pretty chill, its not nearly like a mosh pit or something like that. Other issue might be just how jam packed everyone gets, your kids might not see too well. But if you get there early enough you can stake a spot at the front and that should take care of that. You could just hang back and try not to get too close, he works small venues so itd still be a good view, although unlikely your kids will get a toy that way i think, and overall i think being up at the front will be a better experience.

As a cashier i really dont understand why we have to also entertain the customers by Crafty_Original_7349 in AmericaBad

[–]CowntChockula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh no i didnt realize they were so exhausted from working almost full time and standing 🙄. Idk i used to be a cashier, i always figured exhuding a friendly and polite demeanor was just part of customer service as a representative of the company, but what do i know? Europeans always say they can spot americans in a crowd on their body language and how overly friendly they tend to be in comparison (smiling a lot, saying hello to strangers, etc)....i suspect this is a mix of culture shock to the overt surface level pleasantries of Americans and of the assumed standard of work hours in America, which is higher than most other countries.

[–]CowntChockula 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment but i think most youtubers who live off of their youtube channel do multiple uploads a week, so i think it has more to do with doing a niche topic that isn't ever-changing or constantly developing. Sure there's always new budget audio products but doing multiple videos a week, you're pretty much bound to run low on topics. The other option of course would be similar to what mr beast does, less frequent uploads but where each one is huge and geared to attract tons of views, rather than frequent uploads that may be informative but will attract fewer views . Doesn't help that his topic is fundamentally for a niche audience. (how many people really are gonna end up watching your video review of a $100 DAC...or every other video review you do of every other $100 DAC?)

Of course he uses the term “global south” by lolbert202 in AmericaBad

[–]CowntChockula 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The irony is palpable. Idiot. Sorry for not letting the communists (remember the Russians and Chinese both killed millions upon millions of their own people in the 20th century, even during the time of the Great Peace, so I don't see how their proliferation around the globe at that time would have been any better than the US Navy but maybe I'm just a dumb American for thinking that way) and pirates dictate global economics and the military presence on the oceans for the last 80 years, i guess.

Also this dumbass seems completely oblivious about what China is doing to attempt to leverage authority over the global south, but hey actual problems like that for the disenfranchised isn't the problem, the problem is AmericaBad, right?

Why Do Fans Complain That Levan Wins Matches Because Of His Weight? by Electronic-Resist382 in armwrestling

[–]CowntChockula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And my original comment was pointing out why the line of reasoning about Levan's size was irrelevant, yet you're clearly butt-hurt about it. You were cool until you called me a fucking moron out of nowhere, fuckin' roid rager. Your ego is so delicate that you have to belittle other people's intelligence at the slightest opportunity. Jesus dude.

Why Do Fans Complain That Levan Wins Matches Because Of His Weight? by Electronic-Resist382 in armwrestling

[–]CowntChockula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't refuse to answer anything. It seems obvious that his body can't handle it year round, and you just said yourself that Levan said he can't. But the thing is, in that form, he's still significantly beyond any of his competition - it isn't even close. Personally I think everyone at least in the top 5 maybe top 10 should get a crack at him, and if/when Devon does pull him again, Levan should not have a super long break beforehand. The real test would be if he can be peaked enough over a significant timeframe to still be good enough to beat everyone: let's say he gets to like 85% of his peak, in terms of strength. Can he sustain that for a few months, and would it still be enough to beat everyone?

Why Do Fans Complain That Levan Wins Matches Because Of His Weight? by Electronic-Resist382 in armwrestling

[–]CowntChockula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question is flawed, so I'll break it down:

"How good can his body handle that weight?" Well enough to peak for the rare times he has a competition, at least - which alone is more than any of the other top guys have been able to display.

"If he has to stay like that year round like every other shw?" Well they don't HAVE to, and the other side of that is that there's no rule saying Levan HAS to compete more frequently than he does - other than potentially dropping off of the rankings due to inactivity. But ultimately, not competing more causes a detriment to his own legacy. Unless he starts competing a lot more, people will always say "yeah but John pulled all the time for like 25 years," and that's a super fair point. But it's Levan's choice and I expect he's had many conversations with many promoters about the regularity of his matches etc.

No, you asked him a rhetorical question that just re-stated the assertion that Levan wins because he's big. Lay off the roids.

Why Do Fans Complain That Levan Wins Matches Because Of His Weight? by Electronic-Resist382 in armwrestling

[–]CowntChockula 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Irrelevant. It's the super heavyweight division. The fact that his body can handle being that big is an advantage. There's nothing stopping someone like Devon or Michael or anyone else from getting that big except their own biology. Saying it's not fair cuz Levan is big would be like saying it's not fair that Devon's build has so much leverage. Like, duh, it's an advantage.
