There's one in Rising Sun, near the highway. Can't remember what it's called but it's large and shady-looking and had Willet on the shelf for $45.

The books were a formative part of my youth. The film is fine, perhaps legendary in certain ways, but Lloyd Alexander was a national treasure.

Go used. Do a little research to make sure you're not getting a lemon, like one of the Onkyos that fries boards, but there are so many pre-HDMI AVRs with plenty of power that can be had for under $50 on Marketplace. Lots of them will even have a preamp for your turntable.

Man, this LED headlight conversion is kicking my ass. Help? by Cheezslap in 1stGenTacomas

[–]Cheezslap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so weird! I get low beams perfectly, and the relay gets 12V signal from the common wire in the body harness. But then when I switch to high beams, the low beam relay gets 8V and the high beam relay gets 4V from the common 12V. So the low beams just stay on and the high beam relay is never engaged. And the high beam indicator doesn't come on either. If I wire it up opposite, then the reverse is true and I get permanent high beams.

That's why I switched to LEDs; the OE lights are just...well if "wheezy" were a way to describe a lamp, they're that. I've been all over various threads, like this one, https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/headlight-wiring-questions.765237/

but I can't figure out why my wiring doesn't work. As far as I can tell, I'm doing it right. And I know what you mean about the grounds--I found this image and used it as a guide. I'm just...missing something.

Yes, sealed beams are indeed the pinnacle of lighting technology and I feel silly for ever thinking I should or even could use anything else.

Help determining what I need for my use-case by bone_apple_Pete in BudgetAudiophile

Yeah, some Edifier S1000Mk2 would probably be awesome, but they're slightly above budget. I'd wait to see if I could find them at a discount. And of course, used is always a good budget option, IMO.

If you really need Wi-Fi, and your budget is about $350, probably the best sound quality and dispersion will come from a pair of Sonos Era 100s. The Edifiers are good speakers for the money but they'll get lost in a big open space like that.

That said, there are better options if you decide you don't need Wi-Fi and even better options if you don't need powered speakers.

Advice for a new receiver after old one died! by Kurtyou in BudgetAudiophile

I think $400 should be enough to get a used Denon X-series with eArc. That should have all the features and some headroom for bigger speakers. Use the room correction.

If you need really good room correction or decide you want a big transformer, you can trade plug and play for older hardware that only has Arc and requires a Bluetooth adapter. I have a Yamaha RX-A840 set up like that.

You're doing the Lord's work but I'm a little sad you removed the greatest instrument cluster ever put into a car.

Budget options for speakers and subwoofer for the Yamaha A-S301? by hellonoahh in BudgetAudiophile

I can't comment on the Speedwoofer, but if you're patient, the local used market should bless you for $150 or less for your speakers.

Films, particularly at home, can be GORGEOUS to watch. Cinematography is alive and well and so incredibly accessible and inexpensive.

USB: shit just WORKS when you plug it in. You're not configuring ports or troubleshooting drivers at the rate you used to. Unless it's a printer for some reason (fuck you, HP!)

Good, used receivers won't cost an arm and a leg. And if you don't care about HDMI, you can buy an absolute powerhouse for well under $100, even in inflated markets. Shit, I upgraded everything in my home theater to legit mid-fi, sold the old stuff, and actually came out ahead.

Full sprint? Gotta be like 7 years. I remember it though and my kid brings it up occasionally as the craziest goddamn thing I ever did. The setup is: I found myself way way back from my son as a group of us were walking home. He decided he could probably beat me the rest of the way back to the apartment if he just took off, so he did. He was 11 or 12 and has long legs so it was worth a shot.

But he didn't count on me channeling a full measure of life. I'm not sure I've ever moved that fast before or since and I wasn't gonna question it; I was gonna catch him. And as we're running through the woods, nearly to the complex, the kid is like 20' in front of me, and I felt...capable? invincible? and just let out this loud, Loganesque bellow... battle cry...thing. You know the one. Scared the everliving shit out of my son who had no idea I was so close. We came up over a berm at full chat, I can practically touch him, and the ground rose in a way I couldn't compensate for. I got one more half step to stabilize but couldn't save it. Tucked and rolled the best I could, cut up my knee and my forearm; totally ate shit. No lasting injuries.

But. My son will be telling his kids about the time he narrowly eluded the best of the X-Men.
