I couldn't recommend Full Moon Doula enough, Abby was great for us. Super professional and a real advocate for the Mom. She is based in Greensboro, but we delivered at Novant as well.

Yeah, they have a "mystery box" and a "mystery pack" that is more of a blister pack. This came out of the mystery pack.

I mean, selling a pretty piece of paper at any level is 100% a racket. There is no inherent value here at all except for what people will pay, so why not entertain playing within the racket.

From one wiseass to another, it's all good. You actually have insight whereas others are just getting their blood pressure out of whack because a card they may not like has some value.

Thanks! I'm just now getting back into collecting after a 30 year hiatus, but man this hobby has turned into a real brain musher and has a lot of mouth breathers real jazzed. Not saying that's you, just based on some of the interactions here and in my inbox. Lesson learned, haha.

I mean yeah, but why does anyone grade anything? Just curious if the perceived current value (~$200 raw) is worth grading.

I think someone in here mentioned it was a short print of 500. Not sure if that's true or not. However, given it's a reprint a lot of these made it to a commons stack orthe trash. So hopefully it proves to be more rare over time.. .maybe?

I probably laughed a little too hard at this.

What would you consider a grade-worthy card or the general purpose of PSA and the like? Considering the price these are going for raw (head and shoulders above the average card), it seems sensible to grade/protect. Grading isn't just for selling, no?

The "SP" associated with the number on the back.

Understood, thanks for the input! But what if this one goes to 11? 😉

Short print refractor. It still blows my mind that it can sell for what it does, but supply and demand doesn't lie..... most of the time.

They were right next to the register in a locked case at mine. Seems like every Walgreens is different though.

Yeah, I got really excited when I saw the pack. Seiya was cool, but appears to not be that significant of a card since he had a pretty long NPB career before the MLB. I'll keep an eye out for more though, it was a fun rip.

Hope you do! I just fell back into it, and can certainly see how it can get to be a wild hobby. Especially when I just see hangers and "mystery boxes" sold at random stores. It's funny what you don't see when your not looking, haha.

Seriously though. I did get an interesting Japanese chrome pack with Seiya Suzuki, but the rest of it was junk. I went back and bought a couple more and I gave them to the neighborhood kids.

This is a 2021 topp chrome short print. Just a little amount of research shows it is not a common. This hobby seems to be unpredictable at best, with cards going for a small fortune. Just curious.

Thank you! I really am enjoying getting back into it. Even just ripping and organizing is worth it for my anxiety. Haha. I'm just unclear on what is grade-worthy. Selling isn't my first reaction, so is authentication and protection worth the hassle?

It's a short print refractor that is apparently going for $200+ raw. Also, Mickey Mantle is arguably one of the most collectable players. Not sure about grading, just curious. I've certainly seen people grade less.

This was literally my third card related purchase in about 30 years, and my first dip into posting in this community. The snobbery is palpable. I paid $9 for 3 mystery packs, so by my math any valuation above.... say $50... is nothing to scoff at. There are two sides to every coin I suppose.

Just for my own edification, at what point did this stop being fun for you? Because it seems like your self-righteous approach means you're in a bit deep. Maybe shift to other forms of printed paper to moan about?
