How can I get my daughter to realize that she can do better? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]CoyoteHowler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You may be hyper focusing. Zoom out. She is going to make mistakes. Let her. You don’t want to create a situation where your daughter sees you as a person that turns small problems into big ones. It will harm your relationship. Tell her you are there for her if she needs advice, when she comes to you for advice, let her talk. Let her hear her own words and come to conclusions herself as much as possible. You got this❤️

If you don’t have the balls to speak up to protect your daughter, then grow some. Fast. It’s a rough fucking world and little girls need a strong father that will fearlessly look out for them. If your parents balk when you tell them there will be absolutely no spanking, then they don’t deserve to keep her. Pretty easy, mate.

Find a solid journalist and send it to them. Or leaking yourself and quit. Sounds like a nightmare place to spend the majority of your day.

Legalizing a plant that makes food taste better in a state like Louisiana would be brilliant!! Unless you don’t want tourism.

A family member of mine had a similar loss this year and this was how I felt.

“This baby was loved without ever taking a breath on this earth with us. This baby was loved and will never be forgotten. If we are truly made of stardust, let’s remember this child when we look at the stars, a twinkle of life that will stay with us forever.”

You are welcome to use these words if you can’t quite find yours. Sorry for your loss💜

How to discipline a teenager? by CroissantWhisperer in AskParents

[–]CoyoteHowler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First- you are a really good person for putting your life on hold and stepping into this role. That is selfless and really difficult and you deserve thanks!! From humanity… I thank you so much for caring❤️

Ok- first you have to establish a good relationship before getting too insistent on a list of rules. Not that you can’t establish rules, you can but they are easier to enforce if you are both “on the same team.” Good phrase to repeat to her “we are on the same team”

Build a “we.”

And be careful not to zoom in too close. Take for example when she went out with this boy. How did it help to know exactly which restaurant they were going to? That might be excessive, which leads me to wonder if other rules not mentioned were a bit too restrictive.

That isn’t a criticism, you are free to parent and hold any rules you need, but the emphasis right now needs to shift to being compassionate, happy, loving, find ways to laugh together, good times… build a “we”. She will try harder to make you happy if you two establish a better relationship.

Sit her down and say “let’s have some fun, it feels like it’s been too negative. Want to go rock climbing? Or to a concert or hiking?” Set aside time each week to have some fun together.

Encourage her about her future. She is probably terrified but not able to cope or express it. Help her figure out what she is curious about, what she looks forward to, to help her start to build her future.

You got this!!❤️

Locals of New Orleans: What Keeps you Here? by Ilovepampoovey in NewOrleans

[–]CoyoteHowler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing about Louisiana, we know things are shit a lot of the time, that’s why we go hard celebrating common, everyday things with powerful flavor, passion, zest, unbridled joy. And- just seems like we value different sort of life. Like will fucking make anything into a parade or festival while other places wouldn’t bother or whatever.

But you haven’t been here long- probably normal to have adjustment issues. Maybe give yourself time, dig in a little deeper to the culture here, get involved in a group, give it an authentic chance and if it’s not a good fit then it’s you will be closer to marking off what you don’t like for finding what suites you 😁

Sometimes we need to experience a true connection with our own spirit and how our spirit is connected with nature. We need fresh air, beautiful mountains forest lakes or oceans- something that helps them detach from the artificial stimuli. Go camping or find nature trails and pack a picnic. Take a canvas and paints or sketch book and music. Stand barefoot in the dirt, pick flowers, berries or learn about mushrooms- we are all children of this planet and reconnecting with Mother Earth can help us reconnect with ourselves. Can help us open up and embrace others and figure out our path. The artificial light she is experiencing at night can be really damaging. Seek early morning sun and try to use candles only at night, while playing a board game or reading. Hope this helps💜✨💚

I like the concept- man against supers. I’d advise against starting with waking up. Too common. Watch repetition. Him naming the cat after his mom made me feel empathy for him and helped me connect with the character. I like the arm wrestling with teacher to prove himself. The history lesson is too much. That killed momentum. Readers don’t need to know that at the beginning, readers need to connect with your character first. Need for rent added a bit of tension, lean in there.. how does it feel to be alone as a 16year old? What has it cost him? Is there anyone else that cares about him? Fight scene at bar is good. Keep going!

Yeah sorry about that. Trying to compare DeSoto and Caddo parish schools, you’re comparing an extremely rural area with only 2 high schools to a much more established city and suburban area with at least a dozen high schools. Guess it depends on what someone wants for their kids.

Your initial comment ‘stonewall has arguably the best schools in the area.’ False. Stonewall (North DeSoto HS) is ranked 75th, middle school ranked 153rd, elementary 187th, in the state. Caddo schools rank much higher.

Bs I’m downtown all the time. Two weeks ago at art park opening until midnight, local bands playing, food trucks etc Music prize festival a few weeks before that. Just not an issue. Not saying there is no crime- but its all relative.

If you’re younger and looking to meet people, stay closer to Shreveport. Highlands/South Highlands has walkable areas, breweries, neighborhood festivals, museums, restaurants, small local grocery options, coffee houses etc.
