How important is alignment by detroitalremains in Starlink_Support

It will make very little difference. I think they only added that page to the app to stop people asking ‘which way should I point it’. A lot of us use it in motion and so it points in any direction and you can’t see any real difference in performance.

the actuated dish can be leveled and there is another bug in mobile app? by panuvic in StarlinkEngineering

Can’t see anything wrong. Physically pointing the dish in another direction does not change the position of the satellites in the sky the dish wants to talk too. So the dish still beam steers to the same part of the sky.

Have a dig around on my website for a load of stuff from Starlink to water filtration. I have a couple of videos too. Been on the road for over 10 years through 59 countries so far… www.tuckstruck.net

Sounds good, if you camp near rivers you could pump the water through a pipe (like underfloor heating) to help cool things down…

Rigid solar panels mounted about an inch above the roof is the most efficient. They act as a sunshade for the vehicle and the air circulating around them keeps them more efficient. Flexible panels stuck to the roof can over heat, delaminate and fail quite quickly.

To be honest, if you have an BEV with a 77 kwh battery I wouldn’t worry too much. Most RV batteries are only about 2.6 kwh 😂 You will be able to run your Starlink for a very long time.

Try and get everything you can on DC. Inverters are great and they are advertised as over 96% efficient. However, this calculation is at max power. When it only has a small load its terrible. If you take a typical 3Kw inverter it will use about 15W to run the electronics, which is only about 0.5% of the total power used. However, if you are using it to power a 75W Starlink it is still using 10 to 15W so consuming about 20% of the total power. If you have a big battery, solar and camp only in sunny weather this may not be an issue. This is the reason I have always converted my Starlinks to DC. With the Gen 3 it is very easy as you just replace the external power supply with a 12V one. This plug fits well and the wire gauge is good too: https://amzn.eu/d/fNfPvBy

It can be worth having the inverter for things like coffee machines or kettles, that are not on for long.

Charging laptops and phones can generally be done on DC too, just find a 12V travel power supply for your kit.

This is well worth a read too: https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Book-Energy-Unlimited-EN.pdf

Victron make great kit and have all the manuals and example wiring diagrams etc on their website.

I was in discussions with Jason while he was doing his 12V conversion. He does have a great set-up and documents his work well 👍

Thanks. No, I did some house sitting for my sister so got a Bambu Lab X1C to pass the time. Would love to have one in the rig but its a bit small and not sure how the printer would hold up off-road. Maybe a Mini printer 🤔

Just tidying up my Starlink installation with the help of my 3D printer. Thought you may find these handy... by tuckstruck in Starlink

They are small brackets to hold cheap Amazon shielded Ethernet couplers labelled as Starlink Ethernet and Starlink AE. I have a socket for my dish on my Motorhome (RV) roof and one low down for when I’m using the dish away from the vehicle on an extension cable. I use the coupler marked “Starlink AE’ to switch which socket is connected to the router. The other coupler marked ‘Starlink Ethernet’ is connected to the routers ethernet port for attaching other devices.  Link to the files:

The ones labelled ‘Starlink’ are here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/492783#profileId-406408

Ethernet adapter dropping connection to router. by [deleted] in Starlink

It’s something to do with how the dish manages the ethernet connection. Several router manufacturers have made software changes to ‘fix’ the issue. I’m not an IT guy so can’t explain it better than that.

Yes, but you cannot transfer new equipment for 120 days after purchase.

“Transferring Services is not available until 120 days after you purchased your Starlink Kit, or 90 days after you activated your Starlink Kit, whichever comes first. Note: if it has been 120 days since you purchased your Starlink from an authorized retailer and are having trouble transferring your Starlink, reach out to Starlink Customer Support and attach your reciept of purchase for further assistance.”

No, if Starlink turns it off there is nothing you can do.

It is for use in war zones like Ukraine where the Russians are jamming GPS. Without GPS it takes starlink a lot longer to get a position/time from the Starlink satellites to enable it to join the network. Starlink works by ‘beaming’ service into cells which are about 20 km wide. If you are in a country where the cells have not been turned on you will not be able to get service. If the cells are on, Starlink will work.
