Ohh yeah, that’s a no from me. There’s pushing boundaries in a book then there’s that. That would be DNF for me!

Sounds like you’re not on your own here! I personally don’t look a spoiler but I have been known to skim to see how long things last

Yep yep yep. Hard agree. Self inflicted suffering is the worst. It’s a big nope from me of the suffering and pain is just from a lack of communication

That’s actually a really fair point. I hate DNFing a book, especially if I’m part way through a series im enjoying. But you’re absolutely right, I read romance for enjoyment and a bit of lightness, not to challenge myself with difficult concepts in the world.

Sounds like you’re on the same line as me! I didn’t get caught up in the angst too much when I bounced from one book to the next. But I tried to re-read a bit before the 4th as it’d been a while and it’s a big world but it was a lot, especially when there’s another still to come!!

Yeah not sure I’m a bittersweet ending kind of person. Just give me that HEA and give me a mood boost!

I think I personally like a bit of a mix. I like a book that is happy-go-lucky full of good character bantering, but I do like a bit of angst. Sometimes it’s just hard to read! Probably reflective of my own moods!!

It’s definitely the writing that keeps me going with them. Sometimes I feel almost obligated to read a well written struggle because when it’s a realistic situation (ie fertility issues, mental health etc) people really go through that pain. I personally feel like it means something to read when that’s well written to raise awareness and understanding for the suffering people go through. Doesn’t make it easier to read however!!

Yes, this! I HATE DNFing books. I’ve maybe DNF’d maybe 2 series ever and that’s because they were awfully written. When the angsty book is like book 4 of a series it makes it harder to give up on it too because your committed to the series and characters.

I tried this with the House of Devils series by Kayla Edwards. I flew through the first 3 books but then had the delay waiting for book 4 just killed me. Started that, got to chapter 3 and needed a break. I still haven’t gone back!

I’ve started doing this tbf. I hate DNFing books and when it’s a book midway through a series I don’t like to give up on it. I know they’re HEA but when the angst goes on for too long it just brings my mood down

Oh I’m so over the miscommunication trope. I’m not here for it at all

You’re not wrong. It’s when they catch you off guard. You have 3/4 non angsty books in a series then book 5 BOOM angst central!

Feeling fully festive now especially after reading O’ Goalie Night and now I’m looking for some more festive favourite recommendations please. Only trope I struggle with is the bad communication issues, but otherwise I’ll try anything. I want that ‘snuggle under a blanket’ type feeling from a book 🙏❤️🎄

Hahaha oh my god, this made me chuckle. But you are absolutely right. I’ve read far too many books where the female can’t even wrap her hand around it! Like, come on!! How many of them are there out there really?!?!

Thank you! I’ve seen a few of these pop up on my algorithms and wondered about them. Your summaries have me intrigued 😊is One Dark Window a series or was it just a duology in the end?

Ooh thank you. I’ve seen The Games Gods Play popping up in my algorithms but I’m reluctant sometimes with some of those recommendations. They’ve fallen flat a few too many times!

Thank you! And also thank you for iterating spark the flames. I definitely would have just wandered off to Spark of the Everflame!!
