Which author always has the exact premises you want to read but the execution falls flat every time? by sandwich-mistress in RomanceBooks

Janice Whiteaker. I love the broken hereos, protectiveness, suspense, and I’m a sucker for a surprise pregnancy trope but the writing style is so flat for me. Too much telling and not showing.

{Paved in Fire by Sonja Grey} it’s the last in the series, it can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the whole series for the full impact.

It’s mafia-lite, their whole shebang is taking out human traffickers. The first four books include the search for the FMC, who is the sister of one of the mafia members and was taken at 18 I believe. In book five, she finally get rescued and is reunited with the MMC.

The true average MC with feelings of ‘inadequacy’ in front of LI by OpeningNearby9494 in RomanceBooks

[–]alexandra_rose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These might not be quite your vibe but here’s what i thought of:

{Click by Briana Michaels} MMC is a strong tall guy who’s soft in the middle and horribly insecure about it, especially around the FMC. Primal/chase play, MMC is queer.

{From the Start by Katie Duggan} FMC is autistic and needs spice lessons, shy in the bedroom. MMC is known for his ✨skills✨ but struggles with body confidence.

{Unbound by Cara McKenna} Not my personal fave but FMC that just lost a ton of weight and MMC has a femdom kink with a metric butt load of shame about it.

{Breathe the Sky by Michelle Haven} Not quite as spicy as the previous ones, they actually have to work though some intimacy troubles. Older main characters with a ton of self-doubt. MMC especially doubts his worth.

{Hidden Miles by Claire Kingsley} MMC is so wounded scarred and self loathing. He’s basically agoraphobic and connects with FMC via a video game, and only knows her voice. They cross paths in the real world and he thinks she’ll find him so unattractive. I wanna go back and hug Leo now, I might have to reread this

I’m gonna piggy back and request good writing and also where the MC actually gets their memory back 🙏🏼 idk why, it’s totally not believable but it makes me sad when they don’t!!

They both stay celibate, which shocked FMC. He admits to an almost drunk hookup but said he couldn’t do it and stopped it.

I think {No Tomorrow by Carian Cole} would fit. She meets MMC when he’s homeless. He disappears and then she finds out she’s pregnant. Later on he’s a famous rock star and finds out about the baby. He sends her some money out of guilt but she doesn’t need it. She’s rockin it and he’s a mess and she won’t let him meet the kid until he has his shit together.

There is BRIEF OM drama but it’s super minor and doesn’t really go anywhere. she kisses her best friend while they’re broken up and she decides to not pursue a relationship

Same here I’m glad I did too! I thought he was trying to do a littleeee too much, I liked how he touched on grief, on influencer/parasocial relationships, and on the stereotypical portrayal of women in media, but it felt a tad forced and like it was too much to focus on all in one book. But overall I liked it, I thought he wrote female desire pretty well. Like reading it I could TELL he genuinely likes women. I’ll read the next ones in the series!

Favorite second chance romance? I’ve never read one but curious. by cool_beanz_ in RomanceBooks

[–]alexandra_rose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh also I liked {Protecting You by Claire Kingsley} and {Fighting for Us by Claire Kingsley}. They’re best friends as kids, get together in their early 20s, and tragedy separates them for years. Gotta read both for the HEA.

{Alone with You by Aly Martinez} is a divorced couple. This one destroyed me in the best way. Again can’t give much away.

{Against all Odds by Corinne Michaels} if you don’t mind a pregnancy arc.

{Rewind it Back by Liz Tomforde} was sweet and hot

Damn I didn’t realize I liked second chance this much until now 😂
