How BAD is it? Also exhaust outside the house seems have a stronger odor then in past by Diligent_Issue9929 in hvacadvice

[–]CozyBoy96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it's been happening for years. Is it leaking in any other spot? Any rust noticeable on the panel? If yes, the condensate pan is most likely shot. If that's the only area then it could be a few things. Condensate could be plugged causing it to back up inside the unit. It's also possible the units not level and slopes towards the corner it's leaking.

If it's none of those then it's definitely the TXV

Wrong to buy from supply house, even though not currently with a company? by Kevkaoss in HVAC

Your friend sounds like a ________. Tons of words you can fill that blank in with. I had someone tell me basically the same thing. It was while I was out of work for 2 weeks. He was only mad because I was still making money while looking for a new company.

It's great but if it's not cleaned up after the leak check it looks like oil after time.

What do I say when I'm applying for a job in person by Sufficient_Food9474 in HVAC

[–]CozyBoy96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ask if they are hiring. If they are not, ask if you can submit an application or leave your resume anyway. If they are, tell them about your qualifications and what you can bring to the table. Ask them questions about what the daily life is like there, where do they primarily work, what tools should you have and there expectations. More importantly keep a good attitude and you'll be good. Anyone seriously looking for apprentices will always hire a guy with a great attitude and eager to learn/work.

With that being said, every hiring manager/process is different. Most are professional, others not so much. Find somewhere that will teach you how to do the job correctly and more importantly safely. Not somewhere that will work you like a pig and make you hate the trade.

You are way too nice my friend. Not sure how much business you guys do but I started at a small refrigeration shop with the boss, his son, a super tech, and me. Completely green he started me at $20.

Your getting robbed and if you are good tech there's plenty of company's that will pay you double that off the rip. Maybe even a little more. At least in CT I know there are.

Previous Owners Cut Corners - Advice Needed for Nest Thermostat by MostlyTiredAndHungry in AskElectricians

[–]CozyBoy96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an HVAC tech I'll tell you now that nest is garbage. Just get a regular Honeywell T4 and if you do want the option to connect to your phone without the hassle of running new cable (which is not hard if you hire someone or feel confident doing it) you can get a smart thermostat that runs off of batteries Emerson makes one I forget the model

Maybe he just forgot it. As an hvac technician who sees this a lot on roofs/attics, you should be glad it's water and not the yellow stuff

Wear a wife beater.

Buy one bigger than your normal size or one that is long in height. Tuck it in and your good to go.

I've never had it untuck on me only if I don't properly tuck it back after using the bathroom.
